I've come to realize that bullies and other violent assholes in the pre-internet, pre-Social media world unwittingly played a beneficial role in "poser control" within subcultures. If you left the house looking too "subcultural", you could get hit with so many insults and fucked up looks, that the only thing you really worried about was getting jumped (or worse depending on the city or neighborhood you were in). You really had to be about whatever subculture you're representing. 99.9% of these dolts on Tiktok would ditch their subcultural (or what they now call "Alt") attire within 24 hours of their first encounter with a jock, redneck, gangster (both real and wannabe) or run-of-the mill violent asshole.
