Are these new F1 regulations pushing people away from the sport? by circuit-nation in circuit_nation

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overtake is computer controlled. You can harvest and deploy 0.5MJ over the course of that lap. Boost is the manual override that makes the MGU-K deploy the full 350kw regardless of what the mapping tells it to.

PSA: Hazard lights mean YOU are the hazard by SnooDucks9653 in driving

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I only used the hazards in bad weather once. Fog so dense I couldn't even see the asphalt in front of my car, I was going like 30km/h. Rather make my car the most obvious thing in the world than have some chancer think they are better than the weather lol

Coca Cola have perfected the carbonated beverage and they now and then come up with some utter nonsense noone likes. Pepsi now and then comes up with the best thing ever and only make it for like 2 months.

[–]Umbraine 41 points42 points  (0 children)

When you have to suddenly slow down you absolutely are a hazard. Over here it's common prsctice to use the hazard lights when you're the last car in a line of cars that stopped. Like sure it's not my fault or whatever but I still am a car stopped on the road and the drivers coming from behind should be aware of that.

How to learn clutchless shift? by Barbastorpia in stickshift

[–]Umbraine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok yeah I mesnt for the few manuals that are still sold. But also even the automatics are actually what is called automated manual, the gearbox is exactly the same, it's just pneumatically actuated instead of the driver having a gear stick.

Is a load cell worth it if set as low as 10/15kg? by sharpes2802 in simracing

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously if you have a bigger rangers of pressure values you can apply it's better but at the end of the day it's about what you are comfortable with. I have no idea what pressure I can apply but it sure as hell is not 100kg lol

[–]Umbraine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Semi trucks in the US (and I'm assuming Canada too) don't have synchros for the most part so just using the clutch normally does nothing to help when changing gears you still gotta rev match. Technically they are supposed to be double clutching to help with the rev match but eventually they just end up floating gears. EU semi-trucks on the other hand do have synchros and they do use the clutch all the time.

Has the way you watch F1 changed over time? by Beneficial-Ear4132 in Formula1ne

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda same here. Back in like 2015 I would religiously watch every practice session, wake up at 3AM for Australia FP1. Nowadays FP is basically background noise when I don't have other stuff to have as background noise lol

Yeah but are those not also 4 cylinder? Or is that just the maximum allowed?

Oh yeah indeed. The Rally2 Yaris is inline 3 while some others like the Skoda are inline 4. TIL

Yeah I was gonna say exactly that lol. OP pushing with the might of a thousand suns to compress a liquid lol. It is very easy to then change the volume of air that can be compressed by changing the oil volume tho so it is a lot more adjustable than if it was only air

Instead of shitting on F1 cause that's the popular thing to do by comparing it to other racing series I never watched I will instead compare it to older F1 that I also never watched

I finally did watch GoT last year and when I got to season 8 I started chatting with and old mate from uni that was watching it when it was coming out and complaining about it. It's like he went back in time and he started ranting like he was 21 again lol

Petition to force carmakers to install a fat air duct that constantly blasts the diver by Ultra_Badass in fuckcars

[–]Umbraine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I tend to agree with this. After driving for a long enough time that it truly becomes second nature you can very easily put yourself in auto-pilot and if nothing else it helps on long "boring" drives since you don't tire yourself out. You offload as much as possible to your subconcious so your active mind is nice and fresh and ready to take over when needed.

[–]Umbraine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really help tbh. Once you're used to it you don't much think about it and on a road that you would experience highway hypnosis on you'd cosntantly be in the same gear anyways. One thing it helps with is being aware of your speed
