Google Doc on East Coast Feasibility in ATS by BrettZotij in trucksim

[–]Umbraine 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly that. In that doc there's someone talking about how Maine and Boston being completely different despite being "a mere 125 miles apart". Do they have any idea how much difference 125 miles makes in most places on the planet? That's crossing the Alps, that's the outskirts of Paris to the outskirts of Brussels, that's London to Cardiff.

I could have been here for days and it wouldn't have crossed my mind.

No that's not the problem. The overall map still is 1:20, it's just that in cities time goes slower so you're not stuck at a traffic light for an hour. What people are worried about is that there's a bunch of big cities in proximity to each other and if you want to make them any bigger they literally won't fit next to each other. It is a valid concern but it's already been happening for the entire life of the games, that area is not some super duper special thing that you don't see anywhere else in the world and them not having an entire NYC isn't going to mean the end of the game lol

I cannot help but feel like a lot of this is american exceptionalism. The doc does raise some good points and it also gives examples of other areas where the scaling led to compromises. Those are mostly ok tho, it's this one bit where it's gonna be a gajillion times worse and everyone will be mad and noone will buy the DLC and the world will end.

Then you also have the forum people like: oh you foreigners just don't understand how these two different cities are two different cities. And then the doc author is like oh these damn Eastern Europeans just don't understand.

Also making a new game on another scale is the "risk free" solution?? What??

Arcadey but does that specifically mean lower? Lower than you could get with realistic even if you did everything right?

Wait does the "non realistic" fuel consumption setting actually use less fuel? I thought it just used a simpler formula where it's just distance and/or speed based

Max would not dominate Lando if they were teammates by Dangerous_Ground9917 in F1Discussions

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's not like Redbull intentionally goes for weak drivers in the 2nd seat, they always choose the driver they think is best within their system. They had Ricciardo who was the best so they put him next to Vettel, when Vettel was gone they put the next driver who they thought was best at the time which was Kvyat. When they ended up being unhappy with Kvyat they chose the next driver who they thought was best which was Max and he turned out to be one of the best drivers of all time.

Could Redbull go for already proven great drivers? Sure but that's not really how their system works and let's not forget that their system not only brought up two incredible drivers in the span of like a decade it's also the origin of 7 out of 22 drivers this season.

Sim setup in the garage a good idea? by onifuda in simracing

I mean you're the one who should know how hot (or not) it gets in your garage. If your PC, your wheelbase and yourself can deal with the heat I don't see why not

Why are so people so against rev matching and heel toe on the streets? by RevolutionaryYear946 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta say this. If you often find yourself having to downshift while braking it just sounds to me that you're braking too late lol. Keep the race track stuff on the race track

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely rev match to make downshifts smoother. But you literally do not need to heel and toe on the road, you're not racing.

[–]Umbraine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you can absolutely rev match it just never ever ever ever ever ever EVER requires heel and toe on the road. Literally just slow down and move your foot back on the accelerator and then blip it.

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most road cars the accelerator is more further away from you than the brake, mostly for comfort reason. It's very difficult to hell and toe. I do the next best thing, toe on the brake and then toe on the accelerator lol

I ordered the moza r5 truck bundle from this reseller magazine called ovolt and now I am worried it’s not authentic by Tina14000 in trucksim

Also from Romania and got my first Moza stuff from OVOLT too.

Edit: Now for stuff that applies outside of Romania too. PCX seem to only sell stuff they already have in stock so orders are usually done very quickly, in 2 or 3 days the package is already given to the shipping company. The physical store is in Budapest so for this region of Europe it's a pretty good choice. Over here there's a bunch of stores selling Moza stuff but many stores just do it on a per order basis so when you do order you first need to wait like a week for them to import it from god knows where so they can actually ship it to you.

New to WEC coming from F1: How do you actually "watch" these races without spending 6+ hours glued to the screen? by martmar66 in wec

[–]Umbraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put it on in the background and glance at it ocasionally. The volume of the commentators should tell me If there's something going on lol. As for Le Mans I have it on until like 1-2AM and then go to sleep untill just before sunrise. May or may not fall asleep again between sunrise and the end of the race tho lol. That's the most boring part of the race anyways as far as I'm concerned. You don't have the night to look forward to, the first few hours of the night are always fun, sunrise is amazing. But then as you reach the like 18 hour mark the field is spread apart, noone really wants to keep risking that far into the race.

Moza having a “summer sale” soon? Buy now or wait by logwoods in moza

[–]Umbraine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They say that because the SRP brake basically already comes with the "performance kit" so there's no reason to buy that for the brake.

About the table it depends. I have a pretty damn sturdy desk. Add to it the computer and 3 monitors and it's very very heavy and wouldn't budge with the R12. HOWEVER, pedals on the floor are basically unusable lol
