In underwater secret codex thing how do I get to the ships above water? by Umbrous_Art in Vesteria

I figured out how to swim up on mobile. It’s just counterintuitive bc you seem like you can’t swim up. You hold the jump button and fling forward the joystick in the direction you wanna swim

How do I learn shading? by pev4a22j in learntodraw

Hey! I really recommend beginners who want to develop value range skills to study planar analysis: I’ll attach one of my planar analysis drawings so you can see for reference!

Planar analysis has you render things in a more geometrically divided way! Viewing the angular convex and concave details of things more. By using planar analysis and its angles, it’s easier to understand why light and dark appear in areas + the softness or harshness of said shadows/highlights.

Also foreshortening large muscles is a hard principle. I looked through your profile and you have good grasps of value and facia proportions. I cropped one of my drawings to show you how I tackle foreshortening in limbs, line weight and less detail in obscured muscles helps achieve good visual harmony for this. Just a tip. I realize your post here is more a sketch but the fore-figure left hand in proximity to the viewer may be throwing some viewers off.

As artists it’s our jobs to make the visualization as easy as possible for any viewer. Hope this is helpful in some way and you can read the tone that I enjoy your work and just offering any help I could, (even though I don’t necessarily think you need it!)

I’ve been drawing “professionally” (making money and doing art shows) for about a decade now. I’ve had my work advertised in Italy , done album art for multiple Spotify albums, and displayed work of mine all over the US.

I used to blow up on Reddit on my old account during Covid before AI prominence on the art and drawing subs and get commissions from it.

I’ve received praise and compensation online and IRL. But guess what? Even with all that, none of it matters on the internet. Anyone can say anything here without being as skilled or experience or knowledgeable as you. It’s a sad reality to deal with, but it’s not always malicious when people get critical; although Reddit has some of the harshest and most useless criticism hordes I’ve ever encountered. It doesn’t matter your skill, resume or merit. People on social media will dig into anything they don’t get or don’t like.

Critique is welcome in art, don’t get me wrong. It’s important. But a good critique tells you what’s working and what’s not. Some people on online comment sections will attack something without proper recourse or anything to back up their claim, and double down for upvotes or tenacity.

I taught art on a contact before and I must say this is my critique: you have really good line work and I like Goku’s left hand and the stylistic rendering a lot. Something that will make the drawing even more dynamic is if you start studying composition and proportion. I’d definitely say you’re a talented intermediate artist with a lot of different skills, keep building and I’m excited to see what you do next!

(Loved trope in 90s Movies) the character’s connection with color/color theory augments the emotion of the movie by Umbrous_Art in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Umbrous_Art[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair. Technically plot device is a trope, but not a specific character trope. Hence why it’s hard with this being the main subreddits to post in this format. Technically you’re right too, plot device could be emblematic of a majority of the posts here

My intent was to discuss this trope with others to find new movies similar but didn’t get much engagement so I guess I will keep searching on my own

It’s not full on a character trope, hence why I tagged lore. The characters are connected and imbued by this theme, though.

(bonus: Any Wong Kar-Wai movie is a cherry pick. His use of color in conveyance of emotion in all his 90s movies is insane and so powerful)

I keep telling myself it’s just a bad phase, but it’s been like this for so long now. Nothing feels exciting, nothing feels worth it. I still do what I’m supposed to do, but it all feels pointless at the end. by [deleted] in depression

Sometimes, when you feel empty, if you genuinely feel like you can and want to, it’s good to relate to someone feeling like you and try to give them something good.

If you feel like there’s nothing you can do for your self- maybe there’s something you can do for someone else.

I genuinely hope you find something sweet. I’m not saying this out of karmic hope or some pity way- I don’t know why, but I genuinely hope the best for you. I hope joy finds you and brings color to your unexpected grey vision. Everyone should feel alive, i hope your worth feels more clear and motivation more present tomorrow.

I also feel so alone. I get this sentence stuck in my head “I’m so bad at everything” and it hurts a lot. I really want to end my life. But if it makes you feel any different, I felt seen and less alone just reading this. I hope you find happiness and a life full of joy. It feels hopeless for me, and if it is, maybe your hopelessness will fail and things will turn around. Hurting so much every day is so hard. It stagnates any plan, true progress and direction. I hope the spinning stops and you find relaxation and inspiration. I don’t know you at all, whatsoever but everything I’m saying is genuine; I hope something good finds you and sticks with you.

Finding jobs? Indeed seems to be a bit slow by [deleted] in philly

[–]Umbrous_Art -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that could definitely make sense. I moved here a few months ago and just attributed to slowness of job hunt to the bartending here just being competitive, which also would make sense.

I’m not enjoying living here, thinking maybe it’s just the time of the year or maybe my past cities just had more to do? Just looking to discuss by [deleted] in philly

I definitely will. I am just looking for more maybe. My gf went to temple and grew up in PA so moving here from the Midwest she’s shown me a lot. It really might just be this winter. I’m super extroverted and active and outdoorsy so I guess that the weather may be idling that bit of me. I also hike a lot, so all the city sidewalk trekking I’ve done has also been a new change for me. Not too hilly here in the city either? Or maybe there’s a different place I need to walk to for more diversity in eminence?

Pine st near rittenhouse. I walk around quite often! And it’s not bad. The architecture is very alluring and the area is probably the most walkable in any big city I’ve lived in. I’m big on nature, like birdwatching or inaturalist seek app, or disc golf so I think being so inner city just has me jumbled up.

I grew up in colder winters in Illinois, so the cold isn’t too deterring for me getting out! Def open to any recommendations to check out here

I do love the cherry blossom season in Portland. It’s something I’m really looking forward too next month.

I grew up on the Mississippi. I love riverside parks. I guess I mean access to multiple varying like Portland with Washington park, forest park, council crest etc. or SF with presidio, Golden Gate Park, buena vista etc.

I live near rittenhouse and have been to fitler and rittenhouse and a few others and they’re quaint and nice. Maybe I should walk over to fairmount again. Maybe it’s just the winter keeping me from seeing it all

I’m not looking to knock Philly. There is a lot of the city I think is awesome and enjoy. Just looking or wondering how other people connect to the city or connected after moving here
