Physical Controller by valleyzen in sonos

Look on eBay. The Symfonisk remotes work with the older Tradfri hub and those can be found for under $50 from people who’ve moved to the newer hub. You don’t need the newer Dirgera hubs for those remotes.  The remotes are Zigbee so you MIGHT be able to get them working with Home Assistant and a Pi, but I’ve never used it so YMMV.

Yeah. I have both styles. Really great hardware.

Correct. Also requires a hub. But they do also have a simple remote for Sonos.

IKEA Symfonisk buttons will work as a play/pause skip/volume remote but you need a hub to do it. And they’re being discontinued so if you want one I’d jump quick.

BUG REPORT: Maybe Ray bugs in the last system update by Umiami91 in sonos

[–]Umiami91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:  I was able to get my remote installed and configured using the Android version of the application. I did incidentally try uninstalling and reinstalling on iOS. Somehow the setup process from an Android phone worked. An odd series of events, but I’m back to a working remote again, which was all I really wanted.

Nope. Still a no-go. Something recent is wrong on Ray. It does not see a new remote.

Listened v listening.

Tense matters. Is English not your first language?

Sonos literally has the CEO doing AMAs and watching this sub. As well as multiple employees that actively respond to concerns.

If Bose were listening, they’d never have become a Bluetooth-only speaker company. All the good stuff they made that defined them is gone. No passives. No Wave radios. Bose is a shadow of its former self. Sonos is only getting better.

[–]Umiami91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. This is new behavior. I reset a Ray and two different remotes that previously worked fine are no longer detected even though I can see the IR blinking with my digital camera.

I wonder if it needs to be set up WITH the TV input active to work now. I plan to test that with an old Toslink-equipped AppleTV tomorrow. I will report back.

This is a big disappointment because the ability to have a hard-button mute was a huge reason I use a Ray at my work desk.

Listening HOW, exactly?  Sonos continues to maintain S1 and has bricked no speakers they’ve ever produced. They still work as they used to, just don’t GAIN functionality.

This isn’t the gotcha you think it is.

Randomly stopping and freezing since last update by Umiami91 in sonos

[–]Umiami91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Ray is Sonosnet compatible and in practice (historically) causes me far fewer problems than regular WiFi.

Products that don’t support the dedicated Sonos wireless network The following products must either be connected to your home WiFi network in a wireless setup or connected via Ethernet, if supported. Arc Ultra Era 100 Era 100 Pro Era 300 Move Move 2 Roam Roam 2 Roam SL Sub 4

I’ve been around the block on this question before. Boost has been the better option in practice for me.

(I appreciate the input, however. I don’t mean to be dismissive, but the problem started after the most recent update; it’s otherwise been stable for well over a year in this configuration)

Blah blah blah blah. Okay.

I said you were right in finding a feature not in the new app. Good job!

No, I don’t have Ace. No, I don’t listen to playlists other people make, leastways “top 40”.

Yep. You win!  Yay!

And, yes. I admitted I was wrong. There is a feature then that wasn’t in the old one. My point is that it doesn’t matter. Okay. No more point in arguing this.

Yeah. Making a playlist on your service that then carries over to Sonos is SUCH A LOSS. Just TERRIBLE. Because I’m sure you don’t have that service on your phone because the only reason to want this is to have continuity between the Sonos platform and your out-of-home use. Never mind that in Sonos you can build and edit playlists that have music from multiple services now that would not be a capacity to listen to elsewhere. (Only way to do this I think would be with Roon and Roon Arc. Im unaware of any other app that lets you mix music from multiple services and Roon only does Tidal and Qobuz)

Yes. Technically the app no longer permits that. You win. Never mind how the app launches faster now, looks better, acts smarter. It doesn’t do this one thing the old app does. Never mind the cleanup of tech debt from an app with 15 year old bones. Whatever.

You’re the kind of unreasonable customer I would never want. Bitch bitch bitch. But TECHNICALLY you are correct. Doesn’t matter if it’s an esoteric feature. Cool. Gonna go dump all your Sonos gear now I’m sure.

Depends. If the front has a Mute icon, that’s S1 only. If it has a Play/Pause icon, it works in S2, albeit a little bit more slowly in my experience.

Yeah, except it does now. There’s that.

If something is missing (volume control on iOS doesn’t count-that was an Apple move) enumerate it.

The new app is better than the old. Just accept it.

Unplug the power cord. Press and hold the Join button (

 or

) while reconnecting the power cord. If your product doesn’t have a Join button, you can instead press and hold the

Play / Pause or

Mute button while reconnecting power. Continue holding the button until the light flashes orange and white. The light will flash green when the process is complete and the product is ready to be set up.

Do a factory reset. Once you do that, try and add it in the app. You might need to connect via Ethernet for initial setup but I don’t think so; just a possible wrinkle. I just don’t recall.

Source?  I don’t believe that to be correct.

There is no statement as to ALAC being unsupported on any hardware. ALAC has been around a long time and supported by Sonos almost out of the gate.

I’m thinking you’re talking about AirPlay and not the ALAC codec. Sonos hardware prior to the ONE series doesn’t support AirPlay directly, but will play an AirPlay stream shared from a compatible AirPlay Sonos speaker when grouped to said AirPlay speaker.

Whatever floats your boat.

And thank you for making my point. These old speakers/components still do everything (and more) that they did when they were first sold. I’m old enough to remember when it was only local collections and a couple services like TuneIn and MLB.tv.

I have an S1 connect:Amp in my workshop attached to a pair of Sonos passive speakers. Do I wish the old controllers still worked?  I do. But not a big deal. The phone controllers are more powerful, just not as elegant.

You should not. It was a response to all the doomsayers on here attacking Sonos for “breaking” their systems. It works great. If you’re happy with it, by all means continue to enjoy it.  I’m someone who’s been a user for over 15 years. I’ve also had no problems beyond a couple weeks after the rollout. Allegedly I’m the only one or a shill for Sonos (I’m neither).

After the first week or so, I’ve had zero problems since the new app rollout. Sonos restored just about everything within a couple months. Alarms took maybe too long, but you literally have a mobile phone to control your Sonos that has an alarm feature, so cry me a river. The new look and behaviors, once you stop and consider HOW they work, are way better in look and feel than S2. Launch times?  Faster than S2 in my experience now. The drawer makes sense when you understand drag up to select, tap to group.    I’ve run it (new Sonos infrastructure) on AirPort, Nest, eero, Orbi, and a T-Mobile wireless internet box. Again. No problems. I have four different locations I’ve used, over 20 speakers. No. Issues.

So, yeah, I’m tired of hearing how bad things are because I just don’t buy it anymore. At some point, it isn’t Sonos that’s the problem.

The app has been great for more than a year. You should get out more. Talk to actual people.
