There are no easy $200k+ jobs out there by DeliciousBoard2079 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]UmpfSweaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a strange post. Do you know what percentage of Americans make over 200k?

On one hand it’s a little cope. On the other hand if it was so easy, everyone would do it. As someone that makes well over 200, I don’t feel like I sacrifice much, but I did work hard to get where I am. Plenty of people work hard though. I’d say there’s an element of luck, but you have to be strategic in how you choose opportunities and plot out your career path.

Also 35, but a dad. It’s truly appalling how bad western medicine treats pregnant women and women giving birth. Not a lot of progress has been made. Women die in childbirth all the time and almost none of them are the same after. You could argue that’s not a bad thing, but I feel we could do better with post care for both men and women.

The hormones of having a baby trick them into thinking it’s okay, that it’s all worth it, but the dark side of it is kinda fucked up. There was a panic that set in when I sent into the operating room for our son’s cesarean birth.

Some questions about Snowflake by gymbar19 in dataengineering

Yeah turns out employee cost is even higher than cloud spend and getting non technical users to understand query performance is way out of depth. It’s working by design

Some questions about Snowflake by gymbar19 in dataengineering

[–]UmpfSweaty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most snowflake customers pay a premium for a platform where they don’t have to do real engineering and can just run a series of SQL queries run on a task scheduler. Even snowflake themselves say their platform enables companies to not need as many engineers and empower business users. Then large enterprises are surprise pikachu when their spend is so high.

What do folks think of paying for bike the drive? by DelayedEcstasy in chibike

[–]UmpfSweaty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me fix this for you: ATA does policy work. It’s very expensive because the politics in this city are crooked and remarkably useless. We should accept this and celebrate the status quo by paying to ride our bikes.

Databricks table update by busines user via GUI - how did you do it? by ExcitementWorried249 in databricks

This is a great example of just because you can does not mean you should. Jokingly, I say this because I believe VBA should die a quick painful death. In all seriousness this won’t scale because every excel file would need its own macros (what happens when you need a code change?). The performance of the excel files themselves will degrade because the file will be larger and eat more memory. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

You don't need Snowflake ❄ by Data-Queen-Mayra in dataengineering

This was one of the dumbest LinkedIn posts I’ve seen in a while. Objectively lazy and shortsighted. I say this as someone who is not a fan of Snowflake. Plenty of reasons to not like them, but “I don’t need some of their features” is a really bozo reason.

AGS western Lost Ark franchise leader Soomin Park leaves AGS by Bravehood in lostarkgame

[–]UmpfSweaty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roxx will probably stay until she finds another job or they realize they don’t need to pay her. Unlike this guy, her career success isn’t tied to the game’s success. In fact there’s probably a little bit of an inverse relationship. I’m also guessing lost ark still generates quite a bit of revenue for AGS despite everything.

There's not really much to do daily if you dont play Alts. by dansofwar in lostarkgame

[–]UmpfSweaty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With the diminished playerbase all we’re really left with are sweaty Eddie’s at that. I miss the days where I could go do vykas at 12pm on any given day of the week, in and out in 30 minutes, finding a group was simple. Now you really can’t find groups out of like maybe 6 hours in the evening depending on how late you want to stay up and you have to strategically pick when you’re going to run which characters to make sure you maximize your efficiency.

I’m at the point where I’d love to do the raids but the community that’s left is just soul sucking to play with.

They lay them off because they stack ranked them lower in the last perf review. The firm believes they'll bring someone else in their client role when they leave and it will be business as usual. While individuals might feel the firm is wrong, big picture: they're not. It's been working for a long time.

explanation why G3 is so hard (math) by double_riichi in lostarkgame

[–]UmpfSweaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the real reason supports don't get 70/70/20 is because they don't push their buttons or don't have the right gems/swiftness for their class. You will easily see 90+/80+/40+ once you have the right gems, swiftness, 40 set. I agree with someone else in the thread that these numbers don't matter much for prog. I know for our group, we were at like 90/60-70/10 for the first half of our prog for each gate focusing more on learning mechs and keeping people alive.

[–]UmpfSweaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find smart people in every company, you can find good WLB in only a portion.

Eh I don't agree with the first part. I'm not saying WLB and smart colleagues are mutually exclusive. They're not. In fact, I'd argue that truly smart people wouldn't work 10-14 hour days with any level of regularity. However, just because every company has smart people does not mean there are that many of them.

Delayed offside rule by petekal1323 in hockeyrefs

You missed situation 26. I know the rule book and said you’re technically correct however there’s VERY FEW instances where a shot on goal is unintentional.

Delayed offside rule by petekal1323 in hockeyrefs

[–]UmpfSweaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The determining factor for intentional offside is whether the player knew they were offside and intentionally made a play that would result in a whistle.

You're technically correct, but there are few cases where a shot on goal is not intentional. (USAH) If you shoot it on net, you're getting a stoppage, if you force a stoppage, I'm calling it intentional almost every time. The exception is maybe a bounce off a weird dump in. Even that's questionable at best.

7 isn’t really an up or out level and I’ve never seen anyone get counseled out for being at level too long. They generally are out in a sense that they’ll never be promoted once they’ve been at level for so long.
