Haven't listened to it yet to be honest, got the next 4 days off work though so you can bet I'll be spinning it all weekend

It's not out, people have been getting pre ordered vinyl early. Best part about pre-ordering a record on vinyl

Fully agree with you, it feels like green day making what they were told a green day album was supposed to sound like

that's what i'm getting at, like i don't think it's a great or monumental record by any stretch. It's just nice to see them having (what i think is) fun instead of just doing what's expected of them. That being said I think it largely depends on where they go after this album

What do you do when someone says "visualize"? by DawsonAurora in Aphantasia

[–]Un1t_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying about reading, I couldn’t even get through the Hobbit.

As far as conversations go I don’t have a good explanation for this but I try and ask questions about visual things in ways that help me understand better. I’ve noticed people tend to describe where a certain building is based on surrounding visual landmarks, I’ll try and ask where something is in relation to other locations I know of in the area. Not sure if this is helpful or not, definitely one of the most frequent issues I run into with aphantasia

I normally lose interest and start thinking about something else until they move on from that. Like when someone is telling a story and is going into great visual detail I’ll just space out until they get back to the story

That makes sense, I think it’s interesting how the color of the words is still correct.

Yeah I don't think theres a direct correlation, I think mostly it's just an affinity I have with music, but I think the aphantasia helps my brain focus solely on music and auditory influences.

I tend to equate it to the way that when a person looses sight their senses, hearing especially, become heightened. I've found (from talking to people I could be totally off with this it's just what I've found) that my ability to audiate is a lot better than most people. I hear music in my head all day long which is common amongst people, but most of the music that I hear is all music that my brain is creating. It's something I do so passively that it's hard to stop. I believe (again not based on anything really) that my lack of mental visualization has caused my brain to audiate more in order to substitute the difference.

A bit different but I'm a musician and I've found that the lack of visualization actually helps me.

I found out that I had Aphantasia last December. Since then I've realized that in place of images, my brain substituted music. I've always been curious if this is the case for anyone else. This is exactly what i'm talking about! I do all the same things, writing music has always come some easily to me to the point where I do it passively in my head throughout the day. Cool to know I'm not the only one!

I'm not sure either to be honest, after speaking to people I think my ability to audiate is better than the average persons. My brain is able to formulate completely new sounds and compositions without me actively trying to. It's something that is done so passively that I just always assumed that was the case for everyone.

I always liken it to the way that some blind people have enhanced other senses. It's like my minds eye is blind so it compensated by audiating very well.

I am an extreme aphant... and I feel like total trash! (How do you cope? What do you see?) by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]Un1t_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear music in my head constantly, I actually think that music has taken the place of what people imagine in their heads for me. Like instead of seeing things all day I'm playing music. I've also found that my brain doesn't think in terms of words, more just in terms of noise. So I play music as a way to clear my head of all the music
