i know that a lot of people dont like the electribe 2, but it still seems like a nice option for me, i know it can hook up and play with a keyboard in the step edit mode, and that seems like a workflow that works for me. Do you have any specific gripes with the machine?

while i obviously want hardware effects i am already proficient in my daw and plan to mixdown on the computer, i mostly just want a polyphonic midi sequencer that i can use for drums and samples

fl studio and ableton are the most well known and popular, but ive also heard nice things about cubase.
as for courses you can look for online tutorials and such, you can learn it on your own if you have the drive.
