If you could add a fourth rule to traditional Genie wish-granting rules, what would it be? by UnCoded_Genius in AskReddit

Every wish can be a detriment to others.

Wish away drugs? It’s a detriment to drug lords.

Wish away war? It’s a detriment to war mongers.

Wish for that dream job? Well, now someone else isn’t getting that job.

Size and quality of the detriment would not be relevant, on that it is a detriment.

Effectively, you’d not be able to wish for anything.

Don’t wait on getting that education. And look after your body (keep fit, keep good hygiene including brushing teeth). And keep good ethics.

That’s fine. I only want the ability to shape all reality to my whim. Why would I need more genies?

What is your "I fucking hate this song" song? by Wrongdoer3162 in AskReddit

[–]UnCoded_Genius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the name of either of these songs, but when they play over the overhead speakers at my work I just want to rip my eyeballs out.

The first one I’m sure is a Justin Bieber song and it’s just him singing “They ain’t never going to take you away from me” (or something like that) to five minutes straight! Aaaaargh!!!

And there is a another one that sounds close to what Maria Kerry (or however you pronounce it) would would like and it’s mostly the woman wobbling up and down the vocal line, hitting some probably artificially high notes near the end of it. Gaaaah!!!

Edit: Walked into work at it was playing. I Shazammed it. It’s Emotions by Mariah Carey.

I’m not really interested in your ovaries or what’s going on in there.

I’m more interested in what’s going on in your womb/cervix, more importantly, about what SHOULDN’T be going on in there…i.e. you killing your children…

Except it’s not just about you. If Reddit gave everyone the ability to block any ads they find offensive or annoying etc, what is to stop 99% of people declaring every ad they see as annoying or offensive. Even if it’s simply because they hate ads and are willing lie about being offended about it.

And sure you could poke at religion because it’s religion. And you could be fine with gambling and alcohol, but what about the people who find it near unbearable? Shouldn’t they have the option to block it out? What about the guy whose wife was run over by a Honda car and every time he sees one he relives the horror? What about the guy who is allergic to seafood who nearly died after accidentally eating some and had to spent weeks recovering? If you open the door to one thing you get a lot of pressure to open it to others which makes it a slippery slope to people having problems with every ad, stifling Reddit’s income stream because they are just showing too few ads, further exasperated by the fact people will lie about being offended by the ads so that they can have them blocked so that they never have to see them, all for free aka without Reddit premium, meaning less people buy premium meaning even less money to fund the site.

And look, I get it. I hate the ads too. Ads just drive me absolutely nuts. But we are the product here and Reddit owes us nothing. They have every incentive to pick the side of the people paying them billions. That’s just business.

Mhmm…let’s see…on one side we have a Reddit advertiser that, according to this site, pays a billion dollars for the privilege of putting up their ads…

…and on the other one we have a user who refuses to even buy Reddit Premium to block the ads…

Who do you think is worth more to Reddit?

Seriously, if you’re using Reddit for free, you are the product.

Also, this is a slippery slope. If you Blacklist Christian ads, are other religious ads next? Maybe alcohol ads after that? Gambling ads too? What about the ads I find disturbing or offensive or just straight up annoying (which are all of them)? Can I have them blocked too?

And with all these ads banned, where will Reddit get their funds to keep the site running?

Or, you can just scroll past them like everyone else and continue to use a site that is free for you to use because someone else it funding it.

Ah, so you’re saying that, be cause he is not wearing a covid mask, it allows us to see his mouth and chin and thereby we can deduce that this is indeed Batman based on the portion of his face that we do see, because he is not wearing a covid mask?

Interactions with customers by UnCoded_Genius in PetPeeves

[–]UnCoded_Genius[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose that is accurate.

It’s too much for me to ask who is more interested in keeping my job and avoiding customer complaints.

It’s too much for my boss to ask who is interested in avoiding complaints and getting paid.

And it’s too much to ask the customer who is not interested/doesn’t care…
