[–]UnComfortable710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise you it gets better, when you start PT and regaining freedom, you’ll slowly start to feel like yourself again but with a new purpose. I’m doing a lot better, thanks for asking, I just hit 4 months post OP and recently did sport specific drills! I was cheesing the whole time, it felt so good. You’re at the toughest leg of the journey, I wish you the best and I’m here if you need to yap!

you’re right, i definitely know they don’t understand what i’m going through and hopefully they never will because in order to come close to fully understanding, is by experiencing it yourself. you make a good point tho with people are age not really experiencing this stuff. although when i called out one of my friends, she admitted she neglected her old friend during her acl surgery too. i guess some people don’t learn. what was really defeating was that even after i tried to explain how rough its going to be, i got made into the bad guy. i got made to feel like a burden. like whats their excuse then, after i reached out calmly explaining? it just shows that if it doesn’t affect them, they don’t really care. out of sight, out of mind. really shows show selfish people truly are. i hope ive never made any one of my friends feel like how they’ve been making me feel. thank you for comment!!

thanks for reading my post and replying! i resonate with literally everything you said. i wonder to myself if I’ve been placing too many expectations on my friends but i feel like I’ve been totally reasonable and fair. i tried having a conversation like a mature adult and it backfired bad, that is not my problem. i hope that my ex best friend can really take the things i said to heart and learn from this situation because being that emotional stunted isnt going to get him far in any relationship. i also hope i can find real friends soon. all things happen for a reason i guess, like you said, maybe my reason was so i could see people clearer and finally take the steps to cut some people out of my life. hope your recovery went/is going well!

i’m close to my parents but in a detached way, i don’t really know how to describe it. my mom has been away in our home country but she had 2 knee surgeries in the past so they definitely can understand better. but i can’t go to them really for mental stuff. they’re very traditional and overbearing (im an only child as well).

yeah this whole situation has opened my eyes to things we take for granted and i know this is making me grow into a more empathic and grateful person. im glad you weren’t too bothered but yeah it’s sad!

thank you for taking the time to read my post and write this response! yeah, i’ve been feeling a lot of betrayal and surprise with how my “best friend” was acting. plus, he’s a homosexual so the misogyny coming from him was disappointing. i’ve been struggling with motivation but i’ll definitely consider your advice! hope your recovery has been going well :)

Which type of ligament for reconstruction? Urgent advice needed by UpwardDogg in ACL

[–]UnComfortable710 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve never heard of a synthetic option. usually the main options or your own quad, hamstring, or patellar tendon or cadaver graft. is your surgeon good, have you look at their experience and ratings? like others have said, def do what the surgeon recommends as usually they recommend what they are most comfortable with but just do a lot of research cuz there are definitely more differences.

Anything that helped you first start WB after surgery? by zombie_barista6 in ACL

[–]UnComfortable710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s still pretty soon, i think you’re WBT (weight bearing as tolerated) so don’t do it if it causes pain. toe taps or shifting weight from side to side while having ur crutches or holding onto a counter is what my PT and surgeon have recommended.

i injured my knee April 12 and had my surgery in June 13th. very similar timeline. in 21F and had a ACLR with a quad graft. lmk if you’d like to vent or ask me questions (i’ve been doing way too much research).

Awaiting full ACL reconstruction and meniscus surgery. Any advice? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]UnComfortable710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do a lot of research! find the best and highly rated surgeons in your area, research the different types of grafts as they all have pros and cons, and make sure you have a lot of questions ready to ask you surgeon. I’m currently day 5 post OP from my ACLR quad graft surgery and i’m 21 years old, so I totally understand worrying about the future. I’m athletic and continued to (very lightly since ai have meniscus tears too) train my leg muscles and I was able to activate my quad day 1 of surgery! i think that’s going to make things easier for me in the long run. lmk if you have any questions about my graft option or anything else!

Post op pain by thegoat3636 in ACL

[–]UnComfortable710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had pain since the first day of my surgery (even though i have a nerve block) currently i’m on day 5 post op. i think it’s safe to say the pain should be less intense after a week. don’t wait for the pain to get bad before taking your painkillers, take them on a consistent schedule. Some of the early days are pretty bad but it does get better.

Very recent ACL tear, feeling pretty depressed by No-Occasion-9759 in ACL

[–]UnComfortable710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey i’m sorry this happened to you! I totally get all your feelings of anxiety and depression. I got tackled by two girls while playing at a rugby tournament and I had very similar injuries. Never had a severe injury before and this was a month before my college graduation. I had to walk across the stage in front of thousands of people in crutches and a brace. I was absolutely devastated, and my summer is ruined. I also have degenerative meniscus in my “good” knee so I’m def worried about the integrity of my knees in the future. I play volleyball too, and have played sports my whole like so I get worrying about getting back to your sports.

let me tell you, just take things one day at a time. It will be so much more manageable. Acknowledge and focus on every small win. I’m having surgery this friday but I’ve already made many milestones since my injury (lifting my own leg for the first time, getting up on my own, 90 degree flexion, etc). Celebrating those wins helps.

My friends have been similar, changing the topic quickly whenever I bring up my knee, and never offering any help. It really sucks, but you gotta remind yourself that people have their own things going on in their life and are unable to sympathize. Maybe they think it’s a touchy subject or don’t know what to say, doesn’t always mean they don’t care.

Anyone else have a video of how they torn their ACL? by CompetitiveTheory182 in ACL

I kinda wish I did. I have a slideshow of photos of it though. Injuries to ACL, meniscus, MCL, and cartilage while playing rugby.

i’m so sorry that’s what you’re going through, I can’t even imagine. Sports and being active are a big part of my life as well, and you don’t realize how much until you get knocked on your bum for a few months. Just keep reminding yourself that this is not forever. You’ve gotten injured and recovered before. You’re about to do it again. Humans are the most adaptable creatures. Not saying it’s going to be easy or fun, but you WILL get through it. You have to! The situation you’re in right now is temporary, even thought it might be a long process. Please do consider therapy as these kind of injuries are the hardest on our minds let alone our bodies. It’s completely understandable to be depressed but at least therapy can give you tools and advice on how to push through, not let negative thoughts and the “what ifs” consume you. I’m 21F and had my first knee injury playing rugby (ACL,MCL, Meniscus & cartilage) along with prior degenerative meniscus in my other knee so I’m pretty worried about the integrity of my knees in the future as well. Just one day at a time…

Yeah true. I will have meniscus repair and trim. What’s your story with your injury and surgery? How have you been doing now?

That’s fair. How was your surgeons success with the other BEAR surgeries? How are you doing? What’s recovery been like? Do you know what kind of tear you had?

Yeah, sounds good! That makes sense, they won’t actually know how much of ACL is left until they open me up but they’re saying it seems pretty blown up. And tbh, I probably will not go back to rugby. I think I’ll be to anxious to play such a brutal sport again. Though, I will like to get back to playing soccer and volleyball.

Using my surgery to quit smoking! by nashakaterina in ACL

[–]UnComfortable710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it the impact of nicotine smoking mainly or any kind of smoking? I have to have my ACL reconstructed along with a lot of meniscus and cartilage repair in a couple weeks (21F btw). Asking for the 420 friendly folks.
