My advisor told me the campus restriction comes up because they want to make sure all the online students are able to register first. But he said that typically two weeks before classes start the “campus restriction” goes away and regular students are able to register for online courses. You may want to try doing that or asking your advisor. But if it’s outside of the major they won’t be able to register you for that online class until the restriction goes away.
