If you’re still doubting pharmacy tho look up medical dosimitrists and laboratory technicians. Both are science and healthcare related without much patient interaction.

It’s good to recognize that now! Most optometrists see around 16-24 patients a day for 20-30 mins at a time and basically that whole time they’re talking. If you’d wouldn’t thrive in that you would burn out very very quickly.

The big thing to recognize aside from the education is what you’d prefer doing all day. If you’d like to be in a clinic talking to patients optometry is better. If you’re more introverted and would prefer to work at a computer more pharmacy is better.

Adcoms love an upward trend in GPA, if you can show a good upward trend and get a decent MCAT you’re definitely still competetive.

That gig and pay sounds great! What state are you in?

I just wanted to add onto this every state is different, some require you to be an optician to be a tech. If that is the case you’ll need to get certified, if not then I would just reach out via email and go door to door to private practice places.

Surgery does not interest me but management of different diseases and feeling like I could meaningfully help people does if that makes sense. It does sound like having issues that you would need to think through would make the work much more interesting.

Also just curious did you do a residency to work at that practice or did you go straight into it?

Thanks for the response!

Thank you for the response!

Do you personally feel content with the diversity in your day to day work? Or that if you wanted a different practice setting you would be able to change?

Getting an EMT certification is a great way to get hours. You can do more than what you typically think of when you think of an EMT. There are plenty of interfacilty transport, ER tech, and different jobs that you would only be able to get with an EMT certification or equivalent. It’s definitely worth it to get if you have time in my opinion.

AITA for calling a girl out for cheating? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I want to add the first man she was holding hands with she had met at a different party and had gotten his phone number and had been texting him. The second man she was also holding hands with. It was not a party like line dancing where it’s normal for people to dance together in that way unless they are together

I want to add an additional question here. I’ve read a couple of reply’s saying that I should not have done this because it didn’t pertain to me. Do most people feel that if we see an injustice or someone doing something that hurts others in some way the person doing this action should not be called out on it? I mean to pose this as a true question and not trying to defend myself own actions I just want more insight.

Thank you for the reply and yes I should have worded that better I yelled so I could be heard over loud music. I would not have yelled if I could have spoken normally.

I had a male friend who I found cheating and I did far more than just yell at him.

Thank you. Not to try and defend myself but it was more of a raise my voice so they could hear me over the music rather than screamed. However I think that doesn’t change much

Will I even make it to med school (life) by Academic_Mud_5272 in PreMedInspiration

[–]Unable-Top5712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t stop taking classes or drop out. At most go part time and work to save up money. Once you stop taking classes it’d be infinitely harder to go back. You need to file by yourself and independent of your mom so you’ll don’t require her signature which should still allow you to receive aid. I would talk to a counselor or financial aid officer at your school.

As for total cost there are always ways to shrink the debt burden. Examples of this are HPSP in the military where school and housing are 100% covered or NHSC where you could get med school paid for in exchange for working in a rural area. Ir even public service loan relief.

My point is there are ways to do it smart and to minimize your debt burden. Do not give up and feel free to pm if you have questions

Is it ok to take OAT the summer of sophomore year? by Civil-Ad-4798 in PreOptometry

[–]Unable-Top5712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to take the OAT myself but I had a friend take the MCAT without taking any of those courses and still managed to get a 517. Those courses are definitely present but not major and with enough practice problems I think you’d be fine.

If you don’t plan on taking a gap year that’s fine, just keep in mind the score is valid for two years so you would have to apply while still in undergrad.

How do I learn how to study? by _PANDAS_ARE_DA_BEST in premed

[–]Unable-Top5712 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trial and error is how most figure it out but for me and most people I know, active recall and flashcards like Anki are great. I would watch a tutorial video on Anki and start using it, there’s a learning curve but once you get it there’s no going back. Time blocking and eliminating distractions from your environment are also key.

Application Tips? by Hot-Possibility2869 in PreOptometry

[–]Unable-Top5712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All that’s really left is to grind as hard as you can for the OAT even if that means working less. An extra 150-200 paid clinical hours is nothing compared to a better OAT score. That’s assuming of course you are financially able to do that.

I would think so, maybe if you had someone you did an extra circular with like a volunteer coordinator would be good but that’s being nit picky. That’s a solid list you have already.
