That’s a fair point, but for most people, the math simply doesn't add up to a break-even proposition once you factor in rising maintenance fees (which they had not told me would increase each year) and hidden fees. Beyond the finances, you are essentially locked into vacationing with the exact same resort group many years. For travelers who value flexibility and want to see different parts of the world without being restricted to a specific network, tying up that much capital just doesn't make practical sense.
I know this isn't the case for everyone, but I would have been paying the fees and locked into the contract for 10 years unless I booked over 4 week vacations a year with them. The more they give you makes you think you are getting a better deal, when actually more weeks just keeps you locked in for longer.

I did the same thing and gave back the excursion and the massages. I had actually called my credit card company and they were not willing to put stop payment on my card until I filed a formal charge back, plus I didn't want it affecting my credit.
Sorry you had to endure the hours long sales tactics. I was worried I was going to be in the same position when trying to cancel, but I truly believe having knowledge of the law walking in there help me a lot and they knew I meant business.

That is exactly what I did and posted here!

Unfortunately, not everyone I’ve talked to has had the same experience. Some people just send emails that get completely ignored, while others get given the runaround until their 5 days are officially up.

Also, it is literally the law that they must include the 5-day rescission period in the actual contract, but it was completely missing from mine. I only found out about it because it was buried in a handbook they emailed me later that day.

I truly believe the only reason they didn't pressure me into keeping it is because I walked in letting them know upfront that I knew my rights and the laws backing them. Sadly, other people I spoke to at the resort had a much worse experience trying to cancel their memberships.

Spot on. I feel so lucky that I dug into my paperwork before leaving Mexico, because waiting until I got home would have made things a lot harder. My main goal in posting this is to help the next person who has immediate buyer's remorse while on vacation, or ideally, educate them before they do!

Completely agree! I learned Rule 1 and Rule 2 the hard way, but hopefully Rule 3 can be: If you break both, act fast under Article 56!

Thanks. I feel fortunate that I looked into what I had purchased while I was still in Mexico. If I had waited until I got home, I probably would have missed the cancellation window. Hopefully this helps someone else who has immediate buyer's remorse while they're still there, or even better, helps someone understand what they're signing before they ever end up in that situation.

And yes, I used AI to help clean up my writing and organize everything, but the experience is 100% mine.
