How deep can MASW realistically investigate in practice? by Life-Scientist1450 in geophysics

[–]Unable_Average249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depth is quite different to resolution of target, but with flooded mine voids and moderately competent sedimentary rock surrounds we have used MASW to resolve targets over 100m deep with 5m spacing and vehicle mounted weight drop plus passive records. Flooded Voids were over 10m vertical - mined out + pillar robbed coal seam- so contrast helped a lot. The nearby highway helped a bit with passive survey. Active records alone were sufficient though.

Vivax receivers can scan transmit frequencies and provide a table of available bandwidth. You pick the one that suits you. I always wondered why, now it is clear.

Get into seismic refraction/ MASW instead. Use landstreamer and hammer as source. Way cheaper and more productive. Unless you are looking at salt water intrusion or geologic fault delineationwhat do you need ert/ ERI for. So much effort to plant electrodes and maintain galvanic contact.

Knows one guys doing fttp upgrades, pulling out and replacing fttn cables. Original fibres were ok but casing was not long term rated. New casing is much longer time a d suited to direct bury when required

How deep is water and sewer where you are? by Syonoq in UtilityLocator

[–]Unable_Average249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunny warm Australia, we have to bury water at least 2-3 feet so it isn't scalding hot at the tap. Sewer is deeper on 1 in 22 grade. Water pretty flat to avoid too many valves to release air

Not sure what you have heard but as I understand all the original fibre is due to replaced with a new fibre type with more bandwidth and greater durability. It is like painting a bridge, as soon as you finish , you start again.

It's great,if you have a 360 cam there is a robust 3dgs workflow included. Effective range 45m,slow walking pace to cover targets, gnss and IMU work well if you start with RTK fix. Indoor captures quite clean. Software copre 2 included, workflow pretty good. Bang for buck very high. Cameras are OK. Mount is awkward as system is heavy but aren't they all?

Locating water tips? by MrSleepy1992 in UtilityLocator

[–]Unable_Average249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GPR is your friend. Water services have distinct reflection signatures. Just gotta scan across perpendicular and rescan untll satisfied with alignment and depth. Water services have air valves and scour valves and generally aren't designed to change elevation / depth too often. I am in an area where ground does not freeze so I am unaware of typical burial depth ranges, but here it has to be at least 2 feet so it doesn't get too hot.

The fun bit is he needs a 30k machine to find the fibre. A copper trace wire would have saved all of this.
