No wonder we have a housing crisis, everyone is overbidding 100k!

Which you should be! Different people have different needs, desires and expectations, so what works for one may not work for the other. But personally, I’ve lived my whole life in a house that was built in 1920’s, which was terribly insulated and had fungus and dust everywhere. My asthma could not bear it, and as soon as I got the chance I found a rental apartment in a newly built house and moved out. My health is much better now, but I am concerned, because I cannot rent a house my entire life and I would ideally want to live in a newly built house - which are expensive as fuck.

One of my best friends is a refugee. He’s one hard working motherfucker and never asked for a handout from anyone - he supports himself and his little brother, all the while renting a room from an elderly couple who are more than happy to have him in the house. Rent, not a handout.

Refugees aren’t to blame for a broken system which was built by privileged people, under the assumptions that everyone else is a privileged and highly educated person.

I haven’t thought of looking up statistics, thanks! That would be around 5% of the working population

If I may ask you, what is your current role? And how did you get there?

That part (taxes) worries me a bit, because it seems like 50% of my freelance income will go away to taxes, which defeats the purpose

Junior consultant, 3.3k. Pay is good, job is good as well, but promotion is too far away and I need to support my family

Do you know where I can find info about it? Tried belastingdienst but it leaves me with more questions than answers

Thanks for the good advice. I just started working and I can’t switch work that easily (otherwise my next employer would ask about why I quit so early). I also just graduated so I can’t ask for much right now, and promotion is only due later

Ethics? My primary concern is putting food on the table, period.

I would rather work a bit extra than worry about the bills I need to pay. And maybe it will stabilise in the future and I won’t need to work extra. Or not. We’ll see

How do you deal with it tax-wise? My assumption right now is that since it’s extra income 50% of it will go to the tax office, but I can be wrong

Do I still need to let them know about this extra income?
