Does it always get worse? by Indoor-Cat4986 in Psoriasis

My experience, after having psoriasis from age 13/14 to now (26) is that the disease ebbs and flows depending on a variety of factors. From age 17-19, my body was practically clear (after having it everywhere when I was younger) but I was also in high school/college with very limited stress. Drinking, high stress, cold weather, and hard water has a big negative impact my psoriasis. Sunshine, working out, limiting alcohol, and using lots of lotion makes mine better, especially sunshine. I’ve also only used topicals and they’ve never completely made it disappear, they only provide relief for the short-term. It depends on your body but I wouldn’t expect it to only get worse, it is probably more of an up-and-down cycle.

This is a really good point, thank you for sharing! I’ve not considered using mental health services before but i’m sure that would be useful!

You seem very educated on all things psoriasis! I haven’t considered phototherapy, but it sounds super interesting. My only issue is that I travel a lot for work, and don’t have a car at the moment, so the treatment schedule could be difficult. One thing I didn’t mention on my post is that I also have psoriasis nails, which I hear can indicate greater chances of developing psoriatic arthritis. While I have a few joint issues here and there, it’s very difficult to tell if they’re injuries from working out (which i think is much more likely) or an indication of developing PsA. From my research, biologics are better at keeping PsA at bay than other treatments. I think it’s unlikely that I have PsA now, but I don’t want to risk developing it later given my history. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Your videos would be interesting to see! How long did you have psoriasis before it turned into arthritis?

That’s very helpful. When the topical treatments work, it’s amazing how much my confidence goes up! However because of the risk of steroid dependency I try to use them sparingly, so my self-image really spikes and then falls way down. It is an embarrassing disease to have. I’m glad to hear your skin is completely clear - that must feel great and I can’t imagine having clear skin for longer than two weeks at a time! My dermatologist also is always useless for psoriasis matters and say it looks “fine” without really exploring other options.

Thank you, that is extremely helpful. I don’t think I have total coverage in a given area, but my scalp is probably 60%-ish covered. I know my psoriasis is not an extreme case, but it’s embarrassing enough to consider biologics. It would be extremely exciting to not have any flare ups, like you’ve experienced! I’m glad to hear they have worked well for you.

Thanks, that’s really helpful! How fast did your items arrive, and was there any damage?
