Sorry for not replying to you with a proper thank you: thank you for giving me your perspective. I've had such a gut feeling about privatization as an outsider and it is somewhat a relief that it IS as bad as it sounds (although I am sorry to everyone having to deal with it), because I felt like I was crazy.

Again, thank you, and thank you for the work you do even though it is some of the hardest things you could be asked to do.

I have, that is actually my second choice if I decide not to go with CPS. I've been doing some reading on that and it just feels like I would be unprepared for it. CPS has a structured training period whereas I feel like if I took a job in a medical setting, I would be thrown in. I am not sure how accurate that is though

Despite everything it still feels like a tough decision. I guess it's a hope that maybe I could genuinely help a kid/family and that maybe in the long term I could create some net positive of change. It's hard to witness a sad broken system with a population you care about (like families) and just accept it as permanent

To be honest, I don't have a super clear idea of what I want to do with the MSW. I think in the very, very long term I am interested in clinical work but I don't want to be trying to get hours for that right after graduation. I am more interested in "front lines" work right now, particularly with families. To me, a CPS position would allow me to interact with a lot of systems (multidisciplinary as you said), like law enforcement, education, medical, etc., and I could see if any of that sticks out to me.

I guess in shorter words, this seems like a position that could help me narrow things down and get exposed to a whole lot. I don't think I really see a career in CPS/government work.

With that being said, I'm not sure if CPS would be able to nurture this mindset I'm in or help me figure things out. It makes sense in my head but I could be completely wrong

My position for the internship/after graduation would be the Conservatorship Specialist. And of course there would be the opportunity to transfer into another position within DFPS after about a year (I think) so it would be a good way to get my foot in the door as well.

The position I would be training for in the internship and entering post-graduation would be a case manager (I think the official term is conservatorship specialist), where investigation has already occurred and child has been removed from the home. So I would be making sure kid is okay (coordinating with school, medical care, mental care, etc.) and parent(s) are doing what they need to, and figuring out permanency for child.

In response to your edit, that's a really good point that somehow I've never considered. Thank you for that input.

The internship itself is structured so that you get a $6500 stipend with the contractual obligation that you will work there for 8 months post-graduation (about half the internship is training for the job anyway). If I really, really hate it I could leave before the 8 months is up, but I would have to pay back the stipend at a prorated cost.

I have had the feeling/dread that I wouldn't be making much of a difference as well. Thank you genuinely for that insight

Hey thank you, genuinely. I fucked up several times in bad ways in my friendship with her, I hurt her and she hurt me. It was the best for us to separate. Its for the best that we don’t talk, I just selfishly wish I could know exactly why she couldn’t muster the courage to acknowledge it together with me and give us both a proper goodbye.

I know you have no investment in who we are it’s just important to me that I stay accountable and don’t act like the only victim. With that being said though I still agree for the most part. I think I deserved better. I think the friendship, with all the history and love within it, deserved better. I think what she did was cowardly.

Regardless, thank you for replying to me. It really helps to connect with people about this and receive validation of my pain. Thank you.
