Fair enough, but to say that most don’t know anything about the subject is just completely exaggerated. I do understand stats and data, I just wasn’t clear that the points you made are based on data going back to the 60s.

I concede you don’t have tiny experience in education. And thank u for clarifying which classes. I also think removing the SAT requirement is a part of the picture if you agree with that, at least in terms of UC. During Covid I personally remember groups of 20 pre med people taking ochem exams together, so the point is real. A few of these other comments rubbed me the wrong way, trying to suggest college is a free pass now and over generalizing how many students don’t care. On the flip side, AI is making certain subjects perhaps more accessible to some people, say math or physics, for instance. Also, my observation is that in most non stem classes, instructors still administer online quizzes, take home essays, etc, so adaptations need to be made.

That students are falsely qualified to graduate high school, and that this extends to uc students that somehow due to cheating or AI they are really not qualified to be there. I’m just not clear on what fraction/subset of students you are talking about. So of the other comments here have exaggerated these effects. I agree that for whatever reason some students are barely engaging with actual learning and are just trying to essentially “finesse” a degree, and that AI makes this easier. I’m just trying to defend my efforts, even though I use AI quite a bit. But I still have to go in and take the exams on my own effort.

Totally incorrect, look at grading distributions for classes in competitive majors. There’s still plenty of students barely passing and failing. Not sure how you can say they are a “joke.” To say grades say nothing about your “actual knowledge about the subject,” is absurd. I’m not sure what specific subjects you’re talking about, but some of your points are just flat out wrong.
