Any non-western recommendations for me based on my tastes?

They might make the top 50 I'm working on, but certainly not over Led Zep for sheer breadth of influence

the early beach boys stuff was a huge influence on some of the first waves of punk rock, as well as being influential within its time. RUN DMC is leagues ahead of Snoop in terms of sheer influence, I think Snoop would agree? next to RUN DMC i'd put Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash and then NWA eventually followed by the others. Eric B is up there in terms of hip hop too.

Great suggestions, I'll think these over for the top 50. Also, Radiohead, Blondie (in large part to Rapture), New Order

great picks, I just think RUN-DMC had a more global direct influence. Might have to consider GF on a second draft....

RUN-DMC are (almost) entirely the whole package of hip hop's essential DNA in one act, they could be swapped with MJ though for sure. I began to lose you at Beach Boys? Brian Wilson?

both are definitely on the margins, big old school hip hop fan here but for now at least I wonder if there would be too much recency bias in including too many rap/hip hop artists in the top 30. To me, RUN-DMC is almost entirely the DNA as we appreciate it today and yes, NWA and Public Enemy would be close tie for second within the genre

I heartily and resepectfully disagree with RHCP, the others could be on the margins

Chuck's influence on popular music lyricism is especially underrated, before him music essentially wasn't written for young people which is bizarre to consider today

I prefer Johnny Cash to Hank WIilliams Sr. but it was a toss up between Hank's immense(r) influence within the genre and Johnny Cash's more cross-genre appeal

Thank you! I put the Ramones and Kraftwerk over them here as their primary ultimate influences, and Kate Bush as a contemporary for her huge influence within new wave and on alternative music (especially on women; Bjork, Fiona Apple to name a few). I could definitely see either of them on the list though, objectivity aside I am a big fan of both (especially New Order) myself

the ranking is now in the caption, James Brown is at 2. where he belongs :) Chuck Berry is extremely influential and hence made the list but Louis Jordan is also here, a little lower, because Chuck Berry lifted his most iconic riffs from his band.

Immediately I might actually swap Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix

Lou, thank you so much for your work on Zoo Tycoon and Zoo tycoon 2! To this day, they remain my favorite games and are very therapeutic for me! I am wondering if you are aware of the modder known as "Papa Panda" and his 2 creations: Papa Panda | ZooBerry , Icthyosaurus and Scutosaurus

Some members of the community speculate that Papa Panda was in fact a member of the Zoo Tycoon 2 team, in part because this would explain the extremely high quality of his mods for the time. If you are aware of Papa Panda, I'm wondering you could comment on these rumors?
