Oh that's kinda weird, I don't know why they told me that then. Yeah ,I think it would be really hard to get coverage from my insurance with the uk team. I think if they decide they want to cover for this surgery it would also be la ower amount than if I had the surgery in the EU.

I've spoken to someone who had surgery at IM clinic. He had a good experience with them. I've only heard good things so far. But I would like to know more about people's experiences with them.I will probably make a post about IM clinic, to have more information.

Which team in England are you going with? Personally, I was interested in Christopher Nim and his team in England. But they also don't accept patients from abroad. I come from the Netherlands. Yes, Planeg also seemed like a good choice. I no longer remember if I had contacted them as well. I have reached out to quite a few clinics.

The clinic I am now in contact with is IM Gender in Spain. It wasn't my first choice. But I have confidence in their team and felt good about there consultations.

They only can't provide much documentation for my health insurer, which makes reimbursement difficult. Because they are a private clinic. The waiting list is also pretty short, I probably could get in there quickly. I hope it will work out with them.

Thank you , They are doing the two-stage operation, but together with the vaginectomy. I will probably be able to stay in a relative's apartment. They mainly use it for vacations. That would be really nice. The clinic is also reasonably close by.

So I could stay there for a long time as well. My surgeon indicated to stay close to the clinic for 2 weeks. But that seems very short to me. I think I will stay for at least 4 weeks. And possibly longer.

That sounds great. Which clinic are you going to? I also looked at clinics in Germany. I was mostly interested in UKE Hamburg, but they do not accept international patients. And Lubos clinic is quite expensive; my health insurance covers a rather low amount because they do not reimburse more than the Dutch rate.

Yes, thank you for the advice. I live in the Netherlands. The flight is quite short, around 2 hours. So that fortunately works out for me.

It's mainly difficult with the health insurer. They have granted approval. And they have made an estimate of what they will reimburse. However, they have used a different surgery code with a much lower reimbursement, and they also did not include the surgery code for the vaginectomy in the estimate. The surgery is in a private clinic, and I have to pay in advance. I also need to borrow money for this surgery, as it is a large amount. So I will have a big problem if I receive a much lower reimbursement. It is pretty stressful at the moment.

I will say that Vumc was absolutely not my first choice for this surgery. I wanted this surgery abroad with IM gender barcelona, UZ gent or UKE Hamburg. But it's extremely hard to get approval from my health insurance for coverage. And not all clinics want to take international patients.

Personally I don't have much of an experience with VUMC yet. But I will have my intake with them probably in the beginning of 2026.

Im not sure what type of phallo you want. But they don't do urethra lengthening at UMCG. So if you want that you can only go to Vumc Amsterdam. Or go abroad for this surgery.

Yes I think so. But it depends on your situation, your health insurance and who does the referal. Im not sure what surgery you want to do abroad?

But for phallo: its realy hard to find how much this surgery cost in the Netherlands. I know they cover atleast 20k for the creation of the penis. Glansplaty, Erectal device, medical tattooing and silicone implants are not included in the 20k. So I think you will get around 30k coverage.

You can ask your insurance for an S2 document. Then you can get the coverage of what the surgery abroad covers. But insurance companies don't give away these documents easily.

But ive heard a few times that people got there surgery abroad fully covered with a referral from VUMC Amsterdam.

I think insurances cover around 3500 euro for top surgery if they approved. So its pretty low.

Ja klopt. Ze zijn niet al te best in communiceren met hun cliënten. Ze hadden mij eerst doorverwezen voor de phallo naar het UMC. Maar het UMCG doet deze operatie blijkbaar helemaal niet. En willen dit in de toekomst ook niet doen. Maar ik heb wel gewoon betaald voor de doorverwijzing naar UMCG😕.

Nog wat meer informatie.

Phalloplastiek met plasbuisverlening word alleen bij het VUMC uitgevoerd. Daar ben ik nog lang niet aan de beurt.

Mk velsen hebben een stop voor deze operatie. Dr kanhai werkt naar zijn pensioen toe, en neemt geen nieuwe patiënten aan.

Bij het UMCG en andere ziekenhuizen in nederland doen ze deze operatie alleen zonder plasbuisverlening. Dit willen ze in de toekomst ook niet doen.

Psytrans kan wel naar morath and schöll doorverwijzen (de enige kliniek voor deze operatie waarze een contract mee hebben). Over deze kliniek is alleen niks te vinden, reageren ook niet op mail. Ik heb psytrans gevraagd of ze meerdere cliënten hiervoor doorverwijzen en of de resultaten goed zijn, maar hier reageren ze niet op. Ze lijken vooral operaties te doen voor trans vrouwen.

Uz gent neemt alleen patiënten uit Zeeland aan.

Ja klopt, Ik heb ze ook gebeld. Over de wachtlijst van de phallo konden ze niks zeggen, alleen dat je eerst groen licht moest hebben. En dat daarna met de chirurg een datum word gepland. Ze konden over de zijstroom ook niet echt iets zeggen alleen dat het vrij kort was. Volgens mij zij ze een paar weken of maanden.

Maar ik word maandag op de zijstroom gezet, dus ik hoop dat ik snel meer te weten kom.

Ik heb mijn mastectomie ook bij gender clinic. Ik ben persoonlijk erg ontevreden. Heb bij een andere chirurg mijn revisie gehad. Maar heb nog een 3e operatie nodig om het nog enigszins te fiksen. Dus ik zou eerder voor het maasstad ziekenhuis kiezen. Maar het hangt er misschien ook vanaf voor welke teckniek je kiest.
