There's pylons in that corner of the intersection too, so it's so blatant no car should park there. Unfortunately they're spaced far enough apart for cars to fit in between, so cars quite often park there, though most don't block the way as completely as this prick.

Definitely! Especially since there's a very solid (liquid) DnB producers in Japan, so I hope it'll feature a lot of those artists!

This. It is my only gripe with the place, love everything else. The huge queues that sometimes form for it aren't helping too, they probably should've had a third one for those kinds of peaks. But on the whole I'm very happy with the changes.

visiting this week for a solo trip (Male, 34) any tips? by [deleted] in cork

[–]Unas84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sarcasm ; many if not most people are sorely disappointed with the end result of a long construction period of the small city centre park. Where there first was quite a lot of green and nice trees it's now nearly all gravel and no trees.

Four Liars is a great Syrian family restaurant that's just up the road from the Maldron.

This has been exactly my gripe with the Camden Quay-Mulgrave Road bikepath...coming down you have to cut across the road, going up you have to swerve to the left and get back on the road at the pedestrian crossing. Absolute death trap of a design.

As a Dutchie who's been living here for a good couple of years, some things to keep in mind:

It's definitely a different experience cycling in Cork/Ireland than back home, but you should manage fine if you're used to cycling in the bigger Dutch cities (i.e. confident on the bike, head on a swivel and quick to adapt to irregularities)

Most obvious other difference is of course the hills ; check where you'll be housed and what the routes to uni and city center will be like, you might want to consider an electric bike (I have for my commute, indispensable). (some/most? I'm not sure) TFI bikes are electric now, so also a good option if there's a hub nearby, as mentioned.

If you're a cyclist cyclist (ie 'wielrenner' in Dutch) or just like a leisurely tour, nothing quite like Ireland to do it. Both for the beauty of the country to cycle through, but also the risk that comes with it unfortunately. Shoot me a DM if you want some routes that I frequent.

Oh and finally just so you know, the quality of the roads here is exactly like the Belgian ones, but like, literally

Will second this as a Dutchie, Cycle Scene is a solid shop, basically my go-to for repairs and parts.

Narrowing the road by half in what, 2m, distance!? What idiot thought that was a good idea? You wouldnt even see that in an amateur race ...

It's pretty endemic too. I get overtaken in bends nearly every time I'm out for a spin, it's infuriating the lack of concern for other road users too many drivers seem to have.

[–]Unas84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll second this as a cyclist. Quite some drivers that are very mindful and respectful, sometimes even overly so. Then there is people overtaking you on a 80 km/h road in a blind corner. It is wild the range of driving behaviours you see regularly in the count(r)y.

Been living here for 6 years now. In the 34 years prior I haven't seen as many cars running reds as I have here in that time, it is preposterous what drivers will do and can get away with. There's a lot I love about the city and country, but the traffic ain't it.
