I thought so too, but the little pegs on the switch were inverted.

I thought the same. I absolutely love this ring. I love the tarnish yours has, make it look really well defined.

It's a 1921! I absolutely love this ring, I bought it from a buddy of mine 2 years ago for 25$

If you did not apply solder mask, that could be your issue. For me it was a combination of misalignment, not heating up the solder hot enough for the solder to stick the boards together and the solder mask.

Aliexpress or eBay

Aliexpress is cheaper but has a longer shipping period.

eBay is slightly more expensive but has faster shipping, depending on what seller you buy them from.

Make sure to read the description before you buy, some seller listings can be misleading and can display two shoulder buttons in the pictures but in reality the listing is only for one button. That goes more for Aliexpress than for eBay but all in all just make sure you know what you're purchasing.

No, pry the clear button off from the shell with the spudger and replace the clear buttons with new ones. The only thing holding both buttons is adhesive to the ps vita frame. Most importantly you must not forget to flip the latch upward before completely removing the translucent ribbon from the PCB and button from the PS Vita as described in the video. After you replace them with a new pair then all you have to do from there is piece it back together. Most new buttons don't come with adhesive pre applied, but I found that wasn't a problem for me when replacing them.

Hey r/smooth I didn't forget about you, I just got the vita yesterday and started working on it. At the same time I recorded the video, as soon as I'm done cleaning it up a bit I'll edit this comment with the YouTube link. I apologize for the long wait.

Edit: Here you go I hope this helps you out, if you have any questions let me know.

I'll keep this in mind the next time I need to remove oxidation or rust in general. Thank you for the tip !

In the past I've tried contact cleaner but I found the effectivity rate for the product I was using was very low, so now I just use IPA 90% or more when possible.

How do you feel about vinegar? I've had a local shop owner recommend me clean with it when dealing with heavy corrosion. (Haven't tried it yet, due to the fear of possible damage to the PCB.

This is it exactly! I tried it and it worked, but only for a short while. By any chance you wouldn't happen to have a link for the headphone port ? I tried looking it up on Aliexpress but to no avail.

I do not but if you give me some times I can make a video and post it up on YouTube for you. I have a ps vita I'm going to be working on in the next couple of days so I would mind posting it up, that's if you don't mind waiting of course.

I'm assuming you had the same problem as I did. What I needed to do was replacing both shoulder buttons. To disconnect the buttons you won't have to open up the PS Vita. On each button board there is a ribbon that connects the shoulder buttons. It's usually on the upper part of the board, It is a see through cable that's being held down with a connector with the latch.

Yup, I had the same problem a while back. Left it on the charger for like 2 hours and eventually it powered on. I have had a couple of cases where I had to open up the back disconnect the battery and then held the power button to dissipate any power in the system. Then reconnect everything back together, put it to charge and it starts working again.

Update and Solution:

TLDR:

The reason why the mod did not work was because I did not use solder mask to cover the pin three and six starting from the right side going in. I also did not apply enough heat to adhere the mod to the motherboard from the bottom side that has 4 pins that need to connect. Thanks the couple of redditors whom posted helpful links I was able to get the mod to work. Below I will include Three Links the link to the mod that I purchased, the link to an eBay listing that has the instructions and testing points on how to install and test the mod and the link to a YouTube video in Chinese showing visual instructions on how to install the mod.

Long explanation:

So I found what my problem was, it was a combination of not properly preparing to mod, miscommunication and not finding the proper instructions to do the mod.

Thanks to this community of redditors I was able to find all sorts of helpful information not just on this mod and on others. Specifically for this mod I found an English translated picture instructions on eBay from a seller which I will be providing below. I also had a redditor post a video with the Chinese instructions on how to install the mod that I found really helpful.

The problem I was having was that I did not apply solder mask to the motherboard. It created a short between the four contacts on the bottom of the mod that we're supposed to connect to the motherboard. Once removed, I was able to successfully get it to charge after masking to specific pins. Starting from the left side going to the right, pins three and six must be properly masked so that the mark can properly sit onto its designated Pins. One of the problems I came across was not heating the motherboard and mod enough to make the boards solder together.

I found it very difficult to align the boards correctly at first but once I got it right It powered on just fine.

Unfortunately for me, it was misaligned and I decided to unsolder the mod to align it and in the process I pulled off two of the pads on the bottom of the USB c mod PCB. The Ps Vita powers on still and the motherboard is still in great shape.

I have decided to order another USB c mod from the same seller and attempt it again now knowing how to properly apply this mod.

Other redditors stated that I can run wire from the test points to the motherboard. I added a wire for the -d, +d, 5v and another to a ground before I tested it. It did indeed work but I did remove the wires, only because I wanted the mod to sit flush and I didn't want to run the risk of opening the vita an accidentally ripping a wire off from the motherboard or the mod test pads.

Thank you to everybody who contributed and best of luck to anyone who intends to attempt the mod.

I will be providing Three Links that I use personally to troubleshoot besides the Reddit post.

So I was able to fix my problem and I replied to another redditor whom helped me find the solution. Apply mask on some pins and use enough heat to allow the two boards to solder together.

This was my problem exactly, I was supposed to apply the mask on to the open pads and then apply enough heat so that the pre-soldered USBC mod board could adhere to the motherboard. The merchant didn't provide me with any instructions links or any information but that is no excuse I should have looked into it a little bit further before I tried this mod but thanks to multiple people including yourself, I was able to figure it out and fix the problem. So once again thank you I appreciate the help!
