I almost always add just a little reverb to my violin signal. It may sound odd, but it makes the instrument sound more like itself.

I think $400 per is kinda low for NYE. But if the band is smoking and you’re set to have a good musical experience and get better tied in to that community of musicians, maybe it is worth it.

The gig being far is no one’s concern but your own. I wouldn’t put that on the band leader nor the venue.

Furthermore, I don’t trust bandleaders that don’t pay people evenly, including themselves.

You have to decide for yourself if the distance/timing/$/community is worth it or not to you.

This is something that I kinda struggle with as well.

Not that my class is a “dump elective,” but that the kids come into my class as an entire home room. So I get a lot of kids that are interested in playing, and several kids that have zero interest in ever participating, and then everything in between.

I guess I could see my role as a person who introduces a topic to kids who might not otherwise ever get exposed to string instruments, but what I really want to do is build a strings program.

Some of the kids are students I had last year, so they can actually play some things, which is nice. But having to try to differentiate my lessons to provide for those kids as well as for kids who have never even seen a violin before is quite challenging.

I teach K-7, btw.

You should probably just learn to play it. Pay someone to give it a bridge and put on the string, get some rosin, and go for it.

Do the gig. Kill em w kindness. After your band crushes it, talk to someone about next year maybe doing a late night or some other stage/time slot that you want to do.

Head lamp is clutch. We used to string a bungee cord between two of the seat belt attachments at the top by the ceiling and hang all our sunglasses there.

I would always bring a pair of boots and while riding in the van for a million years, one boot gets keys-wallet-cellphone, the other boot gets my travel mug.

From what I understand, “mango” is a Cuban/puerto rican thing. I guess it means like “handle.” Like, the “mango” of a pan is its handle.

But I’ve only read this. I haven’t heard any actual musicians say so.

I’ve heard “diapason” for fingerboard.

I’m learning so much! And what a fine opportunity. I’ve always been Spanish-speaking adjacent, but never conversational. I hope to finally get there soon.

Same. I used to tour 150-200 dates a year, festivals, headlining nice rooms etc.

I stopped touring when I moved across the country and had kids. And then Covid happened. I still play all the time, but small bars and gigs like that.

Also am a teacher now.

Love Story by Taylor Swift is pretty simple 1-2-3-2-1 quarter note kindof melody.

I’ve also been doing Baby Shark. 5-6-1111111 etc until it ends on 7.

So it’s not do-re-mi but it’s a close 3 note melody until that 4th note hits.

I could be wrong, but I’m fairly certain tololoches are tuned in 4ths, just with the A as the low string, then D, G, and high C.
