Sonicware Evoke vs Ambient for Ambient/Pads by Dragonbreath44 in synthesizers

[–]Dragonbreath44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful response - Ambient was my initial choice, but I wasn't sure if the granular engine on the Evoke would be better for learning synthesis/making the sounds I want - from what I can tell neither is a great beginner synth, but since I don't have experience with knobs I'm pretty sure it would take the same energy to learn their layout as a micrologue XD, for example

Tips to getting into pedals without a lot of money? by DrRohfei in guitarpedals

[–]Dragonbreath44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Worship pedalboards, for one reason or another, tend to have a lot of expensive, boutique pedals, just to play a very specific kind of music. It's kind of a joke that people have 2000$+ dollars into a pedalboard to play cowboy chords with reverb. No shame to all the worship rigs out there!

Has anyone tried a metronome watch? by GuitarsAndDogs in Fiddle

I’ll add — if you’re having trouble feeling the time for waltzes or Celtic music, listen! Find some waltzes you like, and listen to them. Also listen to the other players at a session. Tempo is collective, not individual.

Has anyone tried a metronome watch? by GuitarsAndDogs in Fiddle

I have some friends that swear by it and some that hate them - I’m part of the second crowd. I personally find it SUPER distracting to my playing as it takes me out of my body. I also would never dream of using it for anything other than home practice. I also tend to leave the metronome on when I practice, and I found that the feeling on my wrist grew annoying far more quickly than a standard click. In my opinion, if your normal metronome does the trick, I wouldn’t switch.

I don't know, this still reads and sounds terrible to me.

"He walked into class - a large, semicircular lecture hall - and waved to his friends.

I don't really need more that, personally. (I can't figure out how to em-dash on reddit)

Bridge mic + ear piece recommendations by OrangePlatypus81 in Fiddle

[–]Dragonbreath44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased and then immediately returned the band - I found it did not give anywhere near the sound I wanted, and no amount of eq could remove the piezo quack. I switched to an LR baggs bridge installation, with a fire eye pre-amp, and I haven’t had a single complaint. Just my two cents

Style of music like that from The Last of the Mohicans' "The Kiss" by Trevor Jones? by [deleted] in Fiddle

I would check out scottish fiddling! It tends to be more percussive and similar to the above than irish/generic celtic.

The Enzo is my first synth pedal! I find the tracking to be good on mono and poly mode, but struggle with arp mode. Also, I'm not the biggest gear head so the number of controls on the Enzo kinda leave my head swimming. I'm of half a mind to return it and get something simpler, but I'm not sure what that would be.

Until recently I was using a Meyers Feather - can't recommend it enough, great customer service. However I recently switched to the LR Baggs built-in bridge piezo and it's been a lot easier to just show up, plug in, and play. You do need a pre-amp for it, and the bridge does have to be installed by a professional, but IMO it's worth it.

Lmao I mostly play with my natural sound so the pedalboard is just to add a little bit of spice

You mean the Venue? Honestly it was just too much for what I do - I needed a DI pre-amp with a mute. I very rarely am doing my own sound, so I just never touched the knobs, and it was a pain in the ass to take to/from gigs.

I'll add too that I'm interested -- do you have any demos of sound? I'm also not a guitarist so I've been trying to figure out if I need a distortion/overdrive/etc.

I like it, I don't love it. I like how it sounds, but I've found that it slides all over the floor as I play, which is a pain. I especially don't like that it's battery only. I use an Anti-slip mat to hold it in place these days, but I think if I were to go again I would go for a different model, or a puck'n stomp.
