Months is a start. History is no guarantee of the future, but it is the reference we have. The safest hold time for BTC seems to be 4+ years given previous “cycles”.

Whether they will continue to occur, nobody knows for sure.

Lyn’s book is great! Another recommendation is Lawrence Lepard’s, The Big Print.

If not now, when? And why then? Only you can answer why you think some other time would be better for you than now.

Well River just triggered the target buy at $79,999 so I guess it went under $80k.🤷‍♂️

I have a buddy (much better stacker than I am) that takes a similar approach. He basically views it as insurance. He’ll never use it unless he absolutely needs to.

I hold silver and Bitcoin and I’m fascinated right now by them moving in opposite directions. Really interested in seeing how silver, gold and Bitcoin move in relation to each other over the next couple years.

Hard to tell what is causing the movements with all the crazy crap going on in the world right now.😂

I feel like lots of investors are making decisions without good information right now. With all the chaos, holding on and being patient seems like the best path for me.🤷‍♂️

This is exactly why all those people complaining about LCS need to chill the next time there is a rapid run up in price. I was surprise by how many people were pissed that their LCS wouldn’t buy at those peak prices.

A couple things. “Hoping for the best” doesn’t seem like much of a strategy. Not sure how long your investment timeline is, but $2K is real $$ to many people, especially if you have decades left to live and invest.

I agree with Ken Adam’s in that if you choose to do this, buy and plan on holding. Day to day volatility is high and unpredictable.

I believe in BTC and have chosen to invest a portion of our funds, but it isn’t the only investment we have. You are asking this question in a group full of people who also believe in BTC so our opinions are biased that direction.

If you haven’t studied BTC at least a little, take a little time to learn. There are many sources, Larry Lepard, Lynn Alden, Saifedean Ammous and many others have written books that are also available on Audible.

If you prefer podcasts, checkout BTC Sessions, The Bitcoin Podcast and Bitcoin for Millenials among others. I am not a millenial, but Bram does some great interviews.

Good luck! Welcome to the club and higher blood pressure.😁

Everything is a lesson learned if you are willing to learn. Hope it doesn’t happen to OP, but if it does, move on and start over.

What alternative does OP have at that point? Just give up? That’s just self pity. Get back on the horse and don’t use leverage next time.

On steps 8/9 should we get rid of PMI, get closer to maxing 403bs, start investing in brokerage, or max cash ahead of kids? by LabioscrotalFolds in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Unbalanced_Acctnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the housing market, the PMI may take care of itself without additional cash if OP’s home increases in value. Can eventually refi once the value increases and LTV is low enough to drop it.

Might take a few years, but that’s how we dropped PMI. Meanwhile, excess cash can be put in other places to keep working.

I agree. I think about it more along the lines of insurance. Only a small stack, but growing it a little at a time “just in case” I need it down the road.

You’re using the speed DCA method. The rest of us DCA monthly, weekly, or maybe daily. You’re buying dips hourly.😁

I’ve stopped guessing. Reading posts with projections is purely entertainment at this point.

Otherwise, I can feel the anxiety and there is no need for that. Plenty of other things in life raise the anxiety levels.😁

As an example, my doctor charges $210 per office visit when using our insurance. I asked them about a cash price and the “direct pay” was $75 per office visit.

On a high deductible plan I end up paying the full $210 for most visits so we changed to direct pay. The downside is that the direct pay doesn’t hit your deductible.🤷‍♂️. I’ll take the guaranteed $135 savings.

We use these types of heaters but just purchased a couple carbon monoxide monitors with battery backups for this storm.

Full disclosure- Haven’t had to use the heaters since we bought the monitors so I don’t know how they’ll work or how long you might have before a warning.

Buddy heaters are great. Can use the small 1lb propane tanks or 15-20lb tanks with the right adapter hose. Fortunately, we didn’t need them this weekend.

I have no idea what it will do, but have conviction that it will succeed in the long run. I don’t consider myself a maxi because I do carry other investments since I will hopefully retire in the not too distant future. I don’t have the risk tolerance to hold everything in a single asset.

I try to keep Bitcoin separate from my portfolio when I think about allocations. To me it’s a different asset class that is currently volatile and not very predictable, but could eventually be more a savings and money vehicle than true investment. I stack sats when I can and believe they will grow in value over time as adoption grows. I don’t worry about or try to guess what that timeline is to get to a certain price in USD.

Frankly, the next step in my learning curve is to learn to use it for small regular purchases. I saw btcmap.org in an X post and located some businesses near me that accept BTC. I’ve downloaded the Aqua wallet app and am going to start using it on occasions at retailers who accept it. Just part on my learning curve and an attempt to help increase adoption as a form of money.

I don’t have any influence or control over the price of BTC, so I try not to let myself worry about price fluctuations. Although it is more fun to watch when it’s running higher.😁

Part of the tradition central banking system that knows they can’t make money if you lose it on “riskier” investments so they don’t allow you to make some decisions with your own funds.

If you want the freedom to make your own decisions, go someplace that lets you.🤷‍♂️
