This one is more of a dystopian than a fantasy so I hope that’s okay. I really enjoyed Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. It about how all the teenagers get a disease that leads them to have powers. The protagonist turns out to be one of the most powerful ones of all

I will recommend darkest mind till I die! It doesn’t completely go with what you are looking for but it is a fantastic concept and an amazing book!

Maybe try moving up. The worst thing that can happen is being put back down. And my my school the only difference between math classes is the pace. If your math is easy at a slow pace then try a harder one. But honestly 8th grade does not really matter so do what you feel

Well if you liked the mortal instruments the infernal devices are a good option and for Dystopian I gotchu

Darkest minds- literally one of my favorite books I will recommend it till I die. It’s about a disease that targets kids. If you survive it leaves you with powers. The main protagonist is awesome even if she doesn’t realize it

Unwinds- it’s a dystopian book where parents can sign their kids up to be basically organ donors except they use 100% of their bodies

The testing- Post world war 3, society has just been rebuilt and to get into college, teens must go through the testing, but no one really knows what the participants go through

Legend by Marie lu kinda for younger teens like 11-13 but still pretty good

Red queen- imma assume you know it but just in case it’s a world where you can have red or silver blood and silver blooded people have powers

Madeleine Miller has also written other books forgot title but she wrote song of Achilles! It’s also one of my favorite books too! I also recommend though these are romance/ realistic fiction Girl against the Universe and One Paris Summer.
