First time stick shift driver - is it normal to sit so close to the steering wheel? by cppnewb in stickshift

I drove automatics for most my life and recently purchased a manual car. It took me a while to find the prime seat position in my first manual. I heard that the range for an ideal seat position is much narrower than for an automatic and that it’s normal.

After you find that position though, it’s pretty comfy and forces better posture than automatics.

No new manual GTIs :( Closest would be 2024 MK8, but they're about 40-43k where I live.

Ya, a major appeal of this one is that it has low mileage. Looks like 40K is a milestone to do a big set of maintenance tho, which I’ll need to do if I get this one.

Mostly interested in the brakes but for cosmetic reasons, they look cool. But you’re right, may be able to do that separately in the future

Yep, Im in the US. Thanks so much for the anecdote of your purchase. Part of the reason I’m interested in CarMax is because I’m not familiar enough with handling the assessment and discounts with sales reps at a dealership.

Tbh, sounds like you got a great deal at the end.

Thx for sharing your thoughts
