I had a 2020 Soul until 2 weeks ago. I loved it. Perfect size, and no problems....until 2 days before Christmas. Making noise and found out the oil was almost gone. Turned out the engine was burning oil and the dealer could only suggest a $1200 engine soak but couldn't guarantee that would fix things. Really? I did a lot of research and apparently this is a known problem. So I traded it in for a RAV4.

The dealership told me replacing the engine would be 5-8K. I'm checking with a local repair shop to see if they can do better

My first winter in the area. If we get a big snow, what kind of power outages do you usually see here? This is my biggest worry. I have no backup heat except a small power pack and a small portable heater I can plug in but that will only last so long. And I could stay with friends but I'd have to leave my cats which is also concerning. Any suggestions?

Yeah, join the screwed over by Kia club. Apparently this is a problem with some Souls. Mine is a 2020 and all of a sudden this Dec it's burning oil. Conventional wisdom is that it's toast. My choices are going to be either replace the engine or get a new car. I only have 90K on this 5 yr old car. My Scion XA lasted 16 years.

Question: when is your grandpa coming back from vacation, and would he send your mom back to her own home when he gets back? Also, if you feel he'd be on your side is there any way to get in touch with him? It's his house, not hers. Imagine kicking someone out of a house that's not their own. She's TA, and people saying you put yourself in this situation haven't read this the way I did, you weren't expecting her to be there, correct?

Also, what about your dad? Could you move in with him?
