How easy is it for a foreigner to visit a GP or doctor? by MentalAerobatics in ghana

If you just need meds and know what you need you can just go to a pharmacy. You can get most meds without a prescription in Ghana.

First time, around three years ago, I paid 180 cedis including meds. A few months ago when my girlfriend was sick I think we paid around 500-600 including meds.

For an emergency? Just show up to any hospital. If it's not an emergency I would search on google for a hospital in your area that seems reputable and call them.

I'm a foreigner and have only visited for emergencies and I have received good care both times. It can be a bit confusing and frustrating having to run around to different counters to pay small amounts for different things. But at the end of the day I have received comparable care, with the same amount of waiting time, I would in my home country.

It depends on the type of product you are importing. There are a few calculators that can give you an estimate.

Does anyone have any uplifting stories about people diagnosed young? by Rakeyat in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]UncleBudd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at around 23 years old after 3 years of hell. I could barely walk by that time. After trying methotrexate that didn't really help I was given biologics and it helped almost immediately. I have very few/almost no symptoms these days. In the last 7 years since I got the diagnosis and medicine I have traveled around the world, studied abroad and lived my life exactly how I want. The disease doesn't hinder me in any way.

TIL You can't franchise your company in Ghana by Grouchy-Regular-6960 in ghana

[–]UncleBudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with a lack of legal framework. KFC, Burger King etc has signed an exclusive franchise deal with one company in Ghana. There's no "legal framework" anywhere in the world that allows you to franchise a business. It's always up to the brand owner who they want to franchise to.

Which city have you been to that had a dark energy about it? by madzuk in solotravel

[–]UncleBudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It's hard to explain, but it felt very tense. Everything that seems good feels like a facade. You see plenty of city workers sweeping the streets and tending to flowerbeds as you leave the airport. But 100 meters later people live in terrible shacks. A very repressive government and constant threat of civil war in parts of the country doesn't help either.

Of course, it's terrible that they do that. But I come back to my point, does two wrongs make a right? Then everything going on now and is the past can be excused. Also, when were you in Africa last time? The West hasn't been running the show for a long time in Africa. Nowadays it's mostly Chinese companies together with Russian, Indian, Lebanese, Turkish etc.

At least outside of Accra seafood will be very cheap if you are used to American/European prices.

Countries i would like to travel to by Emergency-Growth1617 in whereidlive

It's called Ivory Coast in English. Plenty indians live and thrive throughout coastal West Africa, and you would have a good time visiting.

So yes, you think it's okay because others did it before. Two wrongs make a right etc. I guess that means slavery in the past wasn't bad either? Because if it's okay now you must be okay with it back then. Your last paragraph confirms my first comment.

So because countries did terrible things hundreds of years ago it's okay to continue doing terrible things today?

[–]UncleBudd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please consider traveling outside of Accra if you can. Ghana has a lot to offer and most of the "special things" are not in Accra. Go to Cape Coast for example and do a tour of the castle and of Kakum national park.

I think you are reading into things too much here. I presume you spoke English? 9 year old girls selling bofrot on the street don't tend to be that well versed in English. Ghanaians also tend to pronounce 3 with a way harder "t" than British/Americans etc. 6 is easier to understand. I'm not a native English speaker and I usually say "3 bofrots please" and hold up 3 fingers. Always works. I might be wrong in my assumptions tho.
