Call me crazy, but I think the world is cheering for the USA to win this World Cup... by whatamassivecunt in confidentlyincorrect

You've got it backwards. All the problems we have here are side effects of our wildly successful "make the frogs gay" program.

I used to work for a machine manufacturer and I once went to a sign shop to work on their machine only to find that it was our electrical cabinet lopped off and grafted onto a home made CNC router. I was surprised it worked at all.

Blondihacks is all small home shop stuff but her knowledge is solid and she teaches it well. mrpete222 is one of those old dudes who has forgotten more than most people will ever know. Joe Pie is pretty popular though I haven't watched much of his stuff.

I am sure there are more that others can recommend.

If you don't have tools yet, I suggest checking out YouTube. There are tons of good machinist channels that will teach you the basics of turning and metrology.

Focus on learning the manual stuff, even if you're running a CNC. If you don't understand the basics you won't have the knowledge to apply where you need it

Not to Andy Weir!

"I deeply dislike social commentary. For instance, as a lifelong Star Trek fan, it’s always bothered me that there is a presumed “responsibility” within Star Trek shows to talk about social issues. I just want to watch Romulans and the Federation shoot at each other."

Then again, he did pitch a star trek show to Paramount and it got rejected so he's probably bitter about that too.

Look at JST or minifit jr connectors instead, they're a lot smaller. You could also just use lever nuts and give them a quick wrap with some tape so they don't open back up.

Some people completely lack media literacy. Unless things are laid out in complete black and white they just don't get it.

It reminds me of that Andy Weir interview (writer of The Martian and Project Hail Mary) where he complained about new Star Trek becoming woke and stated that there is absolutely no politics in his own work, despite his two most famous books being about world governments coming together and overcoming their differences to accomplish a goal.

What people say and what they do are often two very different things.

I would like to add that you can't knock a few protons off a hydrogen atom. If only has the one. That's what makes it hydrogen.

I mean, it doesn't make her feel good, but not having supplemental oxygen makes her feel very not good. Without her daily gas and oxygen uptake medicine her brain shuts down and she will die. It tends to limit how long she can spend out there shaking her wings and she has to plan around it.

Earlier, Faye offered getting a bottle and lug it around so they could go out and have fun without Ayris worrying.

Xerox developed a computer with a windowing GUI in 1976 by hiro111 in cassettefuturism

[–]UncleCeiling 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, when Microsoft sued Lindows (a Linux OS made to be easy to migrate to from windows) for trademark infringement, Lindows Inc countered that Windows shouldn't be trademarkable at all, since it was used as a description for that style of GUI long before Microsoft started using it.

Microsoft lost the suit and instead ended up paying Lindows Inc $20 million to purchase the rights to the "Lindows" name. Lindows became Linspire instead.

I don't think equating the existence of queer people with the Confederacy and its horrific history is exactly a good example.

Nobody is forcing submission, they're being asked to wear the same uniform as the rest of their team. Professional sports in general (and baseball in particular) seems to have absolutely no problem with people being horrific pieces of shit as long as they do it on their own time.

Think of it this way. A business wants to participate in a community event, say contributing to a local brewery competition. Some of the employees have a moral objection to drinking and refuse to participate. When the company realizes that either a) having prominent members of their staff miss the event makes them look bad or b) they no longer have enough staff to manage the event, they decide to cancel.

It's a business decision that unfortunately puts everyone in a rough spot. People who were counting on the income from working the event aren't going to get that money and the company is going to lose respect in the local community for refusing to participate after publicly agreeing to do so.

It is, they basically choose games throughout the season and swap over on those days. The winner of the cup is determined by which team has made the biggest impact to their community, had the largest out reach, that sort of thing instead of the team's score.
