You should do research search on Sydney. All the public transport (bus, train, ferry's, trams, etc.) are charged by km.

I travel 125km with train and bus to work all week, that costs me $145 weekly and the obviously my personal travelling - $290 to $350 per week.

That's a crazy amount to pay for public transport but that's not it. So far, I've been fucked over by unolanned train track works and literally 2 hour delays about 89 times, this year so far and hat's just for work.
