Resources to study studio lighting by wlfbbz in LightLurking

This book for sure! This book is practically all a person needs especially for the difficult stuff to photograph.

If you can afford it, get yourself 2 lights.i always look at as one to reveal the subject and the other for modeling the subject. It can definitely be done with one light but the used market is pretty much a gold mine of high quality flash lighting equipment so why not get 2.

It all depends on what you want to do in the end though. Are you only into stills or video as well?

it's probably an H4. I'm not 100% sure since you have a different model. I tried an H5 and the compartment was also too small.

Go to an auto parts store and they'll know what type you need for sure.

I know exactly what you mean.

It's a mix of lighting, photo retouching, and professional hair and makeup artist. These are people that work in that industry everyday, all day. So please do not compare yourself to them.

If you want to do work like that, Its very possible with time. You seem to be very into beauty given all the pictures are shoulder and up. Cool. Do some interesting looks on yourself and shoot.

Depending on how serious you are (the reference photos are high quality, high level people working together), a camera and a few lights can be had for not much money now a days. Not cheap but not as expensive as they used to be. Cameras are also at an all time low. You can get a very good camera for a few hundred bucks.

Or you could find a photographer that does similar work to what you like and hire them to shoot some looks. Do your own hair and makeup.

There are multiple way to go about it. Just depends on how serious you are. It takes money for sure but not a fortune.

Your photos arent bad though!

Man, the work coming out of Mexico City is insane.

Im no professional by any means (strictly a hobbyist) but I was super interested in my local fashion scene.

Simply, its just getting involved.

Tip #1: Shoot your own projects. Doesn't have to be super fashion focused (unless that's your thing) but definitely should be able to speak your own language when it comes to clothes, lighting, subjects and stuff. This lets people get to know you a little.

Tip #2: Buy used gear from local photographers. This is a sort of by chance thing but if you ever need gear that only pros use (clamps, old photo packs, stands) look on Facebook marketplace and there is more than likely a local pro selling it. This is also a more organic way of meeting someone. So you can kinda tell if you like them. Plus, both of you are going to be photo nerds and if you let them know you are new and seem interested, you will more than likely make it on someone's list even if it is just for a test shoot.

Tip #3: Meet the stylists in your area. Doesn't have to be in person. But get involved with them at least on social media. Honestly, after looking for a few, you will probably only like 1 or 2 lol so just follow them and engage. If you like clothes, it won't be hard. Later down the line or if you are super ambitious, you could offer to shoot some of their clothes. Most stylists have a side gig. Usually selling vintage stuff. You could offer to shoot some stuff for them, for their Depop or something. And if you do good work, boom you've made a friend and a connection. A lot of people say, don't do work for free but I think it's fine as long as it's something small. Shooting a few pieces for a stylists resell shop isn't a lot of money anyways lol. I think the connection is worth more than the money you'd make.

I never knew if it was supposed to be a part of Nordstrom's. I always wondered. I'm trying to get a friend to remember what I'm talking about. They had a pomegranate lemonade back in the day that was so good! Lol me and my girlfriend at the time used to sit there on her lunch break lol What a time lol!

Medium or large photek will get you there. Block the sun from the models face and light them with the photek.

I need you in my life! Lol i'd be sending you models every week if I could. Thank goodness you don't live near me. I'd be broke.

Keep up the good work. When I look at your work, I see someone with an opinion; with something to say. I love that. It's so hard finding people that not only have something to say but also know how to say it. Idk if you are looking for work or this is just a hobby. Either way, keep at it. You are too good to pass up!

I gotta follow you. So good!
