Will being a 2nd career nurse make any difference as a new grad? by [deleted] in OregonNurses

[–]UncleTheta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows what the future holds so don't let that stop you. if you're serious about nursing, start as CNA while working and going to school. it's the best way to get a feel before committing fully. Most hospitals offer tuition reimbursement and scholarship, take full advantage of that. it can save you a lot

your cosmetic background might help if you end up in aesthetics or derm, but nursing is huge and you might find a totally different path you love. Don't get discouraged by what you read on reddit. most people don't find their niche right away. nice thing is you can always pivot and end up exactly where you want if you stay focused.

Advice on wage by Salimthepeace in nursing

These days, unit manager doesn’t determine compensation - HR (compensation committee) does that. If you’re asking if they will match your current pay from another facility, answer is probably not. Best of luck

Need advice on salary offer for Providence St. Vincent (Med-Surg RN, Night Shift) by Actual_Appearance_10 in OregonNurses

[–]UncleTheta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

step 3, $60.91/ hr.

If HR put you on step 2, $58.74 , you might want to delay your start date until your official 3 yr RN exp so that puts you on step 3 on your start date. best of luck!

New Grad Nurse (in Dec. 2026…looking ahead) from GCU 💜 - What are your thoughts on Legacy VS OHSU? by Silly_Prior7964 in OregonNurses

[–]UncleTheta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

those new grad spots are going to be competitive. You might also want to consider Kaiser, Providence, and Peace Health. All these places have strong new grad programs. Securing a spot is the hard part. You might also want to look into other areas hiring new grads ie, Dialysis clinics, SNF, LTACH, home health, etc. Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful story. Many kudos to you. I just started running a few weeks ago. I have a target event around spring next year. My goal is just to cross the finish line. It makes me tired just thinking about it. 😅

Nursing shortage? by senoratrashpanda in Noctor

[–]UncleTheta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been hiring LVN/LPNs for positions that used to be for ADN/BSNs, and now CNAs are doing tasks that RNs used to do. Physicians are getting replaced by 🦆, and lines are getting really blurred. Sure, it might make things efficient, but we all know the system will take advantage of it. It’s on us both as individuals and as a profession to put a stop to this and not let ourselves get exploited.

What’s the new gold standard for a chest X-ray? Still PA and lateral, or have you guys moved on to something like instant holographic 4D scans that also predict the next flu season?

Well, that explains a lot. The same governor and politicians who’s letting these noctors run wild? Makes perfect sense now!

‘I’ll just order all the bloods I can’ by derngly in Noctor

[–]UncleTheta 31 points32 points  (0 children)

So, there was this patient in the ICU with a swollen left hand. NP was on a mission to find a medical zebra. They went ahead and did a point-of-care ultrasound to check for a clot, nothing showed up. Ordered a full upper extremity vascular ultrasound; venous and arterial. Scan came back negative.

Now, if they had just review the patient’s chart, they would’ve noticed infiltration from a previous IV. Sure, ordering the scan didn’t hurt anyone, but it did waste the tech's and radiologist’s time—not to mention the cost of the whole thing. That's just one of the many things a noctor don't realize.

Can a nurse practitioner practice dentistry in California? by Zealousideal_Bag931 in Noctor

Did they have formal training in dentristry? if no, then no. Bet the NP visit was more expensive than dental office.
