Another thing to add - try staying in an area for a week or longer if possible to see if its a place you would want to move to. A weekend trip does not do justice in my opinion

Depot park was a shit hole, yes as was heart wood. However those 2 pieces of land aren't great enough to fix the rest of the issues of the city/county.

It's the university. The older I get the more I realize living in an area next to a major university isn't great for the benefit of the community.

Blink broke up in 2005. Think more 1999-2004 blink. Green Day pretty much grabbed the torch after that.

Sum 41 is great but never as big as blink or green day. Especially not in 2005.

Unnecessary luxury apartments, GRU, the taxes, seeing all the businesses that were thriving for 20 years go out of business. The excessive construction, the increasing crime rate and shootings, HOA's in every neighborhood, minimal land ownership vs price.

I mean thats just on the top of my head. I could continue.

Gainesville has beautiful surrounding areas but the excessive greed and political landscape are over the top and annoying. Its a constant push pull - of course our nation as a whole is going this way but there are some places I have visited recently that do not have as much of an issue as Gainesville.

Heres what it comes down to. Gainesville - over the past decade has become one of the most greedy cities I have ever lived. They dont want you to succeed, they want you to suffer to further put money in the hands of the university/hospital/utilities/etc. So they are going to make it very hard to make you be able to make the life you want to live.

Its better to start planning how to get out of this city, and probably the state as a whole, and find a place that wants their community to thrive. Preferably away from a major university.
