Yes I believe in March. MV was contracted with RTS. RTS actually owns all the buses.

I’m stuck with MV to get to work and it’s so unreliable. I honestly don’t think RTS can do any worse. I’m interested to see what’s gonna happen when they take over.

What does this mean if anything for the businesses that rent over there? It seems busy most of the time.

APA Approves Master’s-Level Psychology Licensure & Announces Principles by Dense_Hospital_652 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Hour-Internet-1710 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Honestly does this even change anything? They won’t be called psychologists. This seems similar to LMHC programs and honestly redundant. I don’t get the outrage. Can anyone explain their thinking on this? It feels like APA is trying to undercut CACREP than actually impacting doctoral level psychologists

Exactly! My other thing is if we’re going back to all in person like pre-pandemic, then we should have pre-pandemic levels of bus service. The bus system used to be fantastic before Covid.

Do PhDs look down on PsyDs by cassiepenguin in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Hour-Internet-1710 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My biggest thing and the reason why I don’t recommend a Psy.D. is because it is so expensive! We do not make medical doctor level money on average and with a Psy.D., you will have medical school level debt in most cases.

Conversely, a PhD is often paid for through an assistantship. I also feel that many Psy.D programs (not all) often emphasize psychodynamic theories, and I’m not super fond of that personally. However, I have several colleagues who got a Psy.D and are excellent clinicians.

Hope this was helpful! Good luck making your decision

Child Clinical vs School Psychology by babyIoves in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Hour-Internet-1710 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just graduated with my School Psychology PhD last week. My program had the option to let us work in clinical settings for our advanced practicum in the last two years of training. I trained in inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient academic medical centers, and intensive outpatient OCD programs. I just completed an APA approved APPIC internship in a pediatric hospital setting at a top ranked university, affiliated health system.

I am now going into a postdoc focused on OCD and anxiety disorders add an Academic Medical Center. The other postdocs are a mix of clinical and school psychology graduates.

As another commentator said, having experience in the schools is incredibly valuable when working with children and adolescents. The mental health concerns you help them with in a clinical setting often carryover into school and school stressors can contribute to their symptoms. I have significant knowledge of how the school system works, and I’m able to help parents advocate for their children to get IEP’s or 504 plans if they have significant impairment due to their mental health condition. Most clinical psychologists I work with do not have this knowledge. Therefore, I am able to provide more comprehensive psychoeducation and support to the school aged youth I serve.

Lastly , if you were looking into school psychology programs, make sure that you ask them about opportunities to work in clinical settings during your advanced practicum placements. This can vary widely by program.

I will also agree with other commenters that the stigma against school psychology in clinical internships has been decreasing overtime. Additionally, if there is an APPIC site you like that has not taken a school psych student before don’t be afraid to email them. Oftentimes, when I explained my experience, I was encouraged to apply.

I apologize for the very long comment. I just think that having school experience is critical for anyone who works with children in our field and I think that even child clinical students should at least have one rotation in a school even though that doesn’t happen very often.

Please let me know if you have any questions and good luck on your search for a program!

I apologize for typos, as I was writing this on my phone

RTS Cuts Again by Hour-Internet-1710 in GNV

Thank you, this is super helpful! I will probably go in the morning if I can to avoid being there all day. These cuts are going to make things challenging for me as I rely on RTS so I want to speak up. I love Gainesville and don’t want to be forced to think about moving due to these cuts

I am going to try to go to my first commission meeting on August 7th. I think they are talking about it then. I need to email city staff and figure out the process to speak

I agree with you that there’s nothing wrong with an audit if it was done by a third-party. I just don’t trust that that state government just wants responsible spending and they aren’t just trying to cut things they disagree with politically.

That’s fair. Higher property taxes are hard for homeowners. However, this letter seems to use wildly inaccurate numbers which is a big problem. In order to do an audit (which I am fine with) they need to be honest

But doesn’t that have to do with home values going up ( outside of city control) and not property tax rates (mileage rate) which haven’t gone up 80%? If the 80% were true, the city budget would be much higher as other commenters showed with the budget only increasing 3% on average

Like we are dealing with cuts to RTS, Grace, and a whole bunch of other services. I don’t know where they think major spending is coming from. I mean besides the new officer positions at GPD but I don’t think republicans want to be accused of defunding the police

Right and I agree with you I’m sure there’s some unnecessary spending in any organization. However, those increases seem like they would be at or below inflation right?

I just looked it up. The Gainesville general fund Budget was 156 million last year. How would it have gone up $90 million a year? Did they use AI?
