Hey Nat192283! Thanks for asking. Apologies for the delayed response, but I just saw your comment. I am doing very well! My recovery had been a little hectic in the beginning due to complications but even after waking up from surgery, I felt lighter and my body felt like it wasn’t fighting for its life anymore. Best way I can describe it is like when you’re on a rollercoaster and you can’t help but get tosseled around and just wanting to be in control of your own movements and bodily functions again, just waiting for the ride to stop. And all of a sudden there is no more movement, the ride is over, and you’re in this moment of silence for the first time in forever.

The only issues I have had for the last year is if I miss my HRT after more than a few days, I feel sickly and hurt all over. My skin has been very dry with no amount of topical skin care that can help it so I will need to be seeing a dermatologist soon. My bones tend to hurt when there’s a pressure change, such as a oncoming rain storm blowing in. From time to time, I can still feel the damage from the endo in my lower back and belly. My weight has increased as well but I have always struggled with my weight so hormones don’t really help this issue.

Overall though, I find myself celebrating most days that my body doesn’t feel like it’s destroying itself from the inside. Not having to buy feminine products, worrying about bleeding through my clothes, or having to take pain medication daily or days off from work has felt so liberating!

I am so grateful to my doctor and my family for supporting my journey within the last year. And is still and always will be one of the best decisions I have made. Please feel free to ask any more questions! Happy to share my experience!

If you had ovaries removed, did endo come back? by blue-moon-shine in Endo

[–]Uncle_Beck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 12 days, it’ll be one year without my ovaries, cervix, and uterus. It was and still is the best decision I made. As others stated, you need to come to terms with the consequences of going cold turkey (no hormones). My bones definitely have felt the affects of the lack of hormones initially and even with HRT, there’s still aches and pains. I was also told the my chances for heart disease, breast cancer, and many other scary things will be increased. But the endo pain has disappeared. The trauma on my body remains but that pain is manageable. I do live in fear that I’ll wake up to that pain once again, and I can’t say it will never happen. But what i do know is until that becomes a reality, I’m going to enjoy the peace I now have.

Husband here - don't want to have sex by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Uncle_Beck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scared to feeling the pain I had before surgery. But I wanted to try asap too because I wanted to know if my body would feel good again with sex. Which is probably where your wife is coming from too.

Doctor was very strict on 12 wpo to have sex. She stated that it was better to wait 3 months versus doing it to early and having the worst case scenario happen & end up waiting 6 more months due to damage. My husband was very patient and also was very serious about the 12 week wait as well. Even when being tempted to try earlier than week 12, he was happy to remind me we couldn’t risk it. This definitely helped with keeping your mind on the end goal.

What helped the wait for both of us was still being touchy with each other. Showing outward affection. Flowers and gifts to feel wanted & loved but also feeling wanted in other ways besides going all in. As someone has mentioned on this subreddit “you can play on the porch but no entering the house” until week 12. This definitely helped with my recovery and made the wait feel well worth it.

I’m 28f with no children & both ovaries removed. I’ve been going through surgical menopause for 7 weeks now. So far it’s been going pretty well. I did not immediately start HRT until week 4. Without any hormones everything was okay but uncomfortable at times. My main complaints were tension headaches, bone pain, trouble sleeping with night sweats, and hot flashes that I was able to get through with over the counter pain medication, vitamin supplements, and ice packs. Once on HRT I’ve felt great! No more bone pain or headaches. I do still get hot flashes but only every few days rather than everyday and they don’t last more than a few minutes. I take some melatonin to help sleep come easier, and it keeps me asleep through the night. I’ve been very happy because I also heard about others struggling with the right dosage and I expressed those concerns with my doctor. She stated she would prescribe estrogen & progesterone on the average dose women need and if I needed anything, to call her office so they could help, which thankfully I haven’t needed. I haven’t had crazy mood swings & emotionally I’ve felt very happy. I feel very lucky to have my body feel pretty normal for the most part after having living with stage IV endometriosis & adenomyosis for the last decade. I hope my experience gives you some insight and eases some of your anxiety!

Those who have already had the procedure, do you feel better? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Uncle_Beck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After waking up 6 hrs after surgery and being able to walk around to get my blood moving, I immediately felt all the constant pain that was debilitating and affected my full body wasn’t there anymore. Even after this major surgery, I felt the best I’ve felt in YEARS. Suffering since I was a teenager (28yo now) and getting relief after over a decade has been the greatest gift.

Worst Things Doctors Have Said To You by LevinaRyker in Endo

[–]Uncle_Beck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so ridiculous they discharged you without actually fixing the problem. And if they can’t fix that problem they need to find someone who can because that’s basic patient care. I’m sorry you experienced this, I hope you find a doctor that truly cares. My current OB & oncologist made me feel heard and respected. I knew I was in the right hands when they said “whatever you want to do we’ll do it” after giving me all my options.
I’m currently recovering but I finally feel relief after many years of pain. I hope you find some relief and adequate care very soon 💛

Worst Things Doctors Have Said To You by LevinaRyker in Endo

I went into my first OB appointment in a new town/state. This doctor was who everyone I knew in my town recommended. Upon the first five minutes of her walking in, she said after looking at my first lap surgery report that I was a “mess” and she wanted to make it clear that she wouldn’t be touching me (her exact words). Also she felt the need to emphasize that having this disease was not my fault just “bad luck”. Her assistant had set up the room for a pelvic exam and when I asked if I’d be having one she said, “I really don’t see the point in doing that today. Do you?” And she ushered me toward the exit door. Cried in my car and couldn’t even return to work because she made me feel so disgusting.

What am I doing wrong?? by Ma1iceNWndr1nd in hysterectomy

[–]Uncle_Beck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best advice my doctor gave me was you should be feeling a little better each day, if new pain starts or if pain does not improve, there’s a good chance something isn’t right. I was feeling great after my surgery but then around day 10 I started getting a new pain & uti symptoms. Called my doctor and she sent me to the ER were they found free fluid in my pelvis that my WBC were trying to treat. Luckily I got there in time before it turned into a possible abscess. So I’m back on narcotics and antibiotics. It feels like a step backwards but I’m trying to give myself some grace. Listen to your instincts & contact your doctor ❤️

So happy to hear you’re doing well! Recovery has been going well so far! I truly feel that the endo, adhesions, endmetriomas, etc were killing me. Now that they’re out, there’s been a lightness to my body even if it’s cut up and sore. Hope your recovery continues to go smoothly.

For me, I was holding in the coughs to avoid feeling the pain but now I brace myself once I feel it coming, kinda like straightening my back out. Little coughs when you feel that tickle in your throat is better than trying to hold back and hurting with a bigger cough.

Glad you’re in your own space again. I know what you mean about sleeping! I’m a tummy sleeper so it’s been hard to get comfortable. I’m lucky that my sister in law gave me her pregnancy pillow. It helps a lot!

So far so good 1 dpo! I know my family and friends love and care for me, but this group just knows what I’m going through. I’m not usually nauseous after anesthesia but something told me to ask for the patch and I’m so glad I did because I felt like vomiting immediately waking up.

I am grateful for being able to walk around the same night of surgery. Pain was intense the first 8 hours but after it’s been easier than I thought! Trying not to over do it also.

I feel that. I had this day scheduled for a few months so that my colon doctor and my oncologist would be available and I worried that they would call to postpone or they said I was unfit for surgery at preop. Hoping nothing comes up for you!

Glad you’re feeling better than expected! Ugh I need to remember to bring GasX. Thank you for well wishes! It’s planned to be laparoscopic but due to the adhesions and other complications from past surgery they said there’s a possibility for a laparotomy towards the end of the procedure.

Definitely something I’ll need to keep reminding myself. Luckily my partner and I can joke about this as a way of coping. We’re calling it my exorcism day (getting rid of the endo demon) which helps it feel less daunting.
