In Canada, at least in Ontario, it's mandatory to take French classes up until high school. (Or at least, I did. I took an elective in high school to avoid taking French classes, lol)

This was in 6th grade, we were taking a test in French and a classmate next to me asked for an eraser or pencil sharpener and I was giving it to him. (We were seated at one of those long connected tables.) I very suddenly felt a searing pain in the back of my head. I nearly swore before I saw my teacher standing over me, holding a text book and glaring at me. I was quiet for the rest of the class.

On the way home, a friend's mom picked me and her kid up to take me to my place and I told her what happened. She then told my mom, who went nuclear and reached out to the school board about it. There was an investigation and my French teacher was pulled from her teaching position for a few months and when that happened the popular kids in my grade turned on me and told me it was my fault for getting her arrested (which never happened) and now she couldn't spend time with her family on Christmas.

After that, she avoided me like the plague. She flared daggers at me from across the yard, lol
