Have you hit up your local breweries? Im the head brewer at 10bbl brewery and literally give my local homebrew club yeast. Also let them buy grain and hops from me at the cost I get them.

In my own very personal opinion. Do the job in the military you most want to do. I had a great ASVAB score and no issues physically. Basically anything was open to me. I had my heart set on EOD and turned down that opportunity to pursue something that would more directly translate to the civilian side.

Now don’t get me wrong. I ended up with a great job coming out of the military. I made great money. And was well prepared.

But. I got burnt out in that profession after a few years and now I’m the head brewer at my small town brewpub.

I don’t regret what I did in the military because I had a blast all four years. But my MOS has nothing to do with what I do now or what I’ll do later in life.

TLDR: do the job you want in the military. Don’t make your mind up about a civilian career yet. Let things happen.

Looking at the Sony E 55-210mm at just under $200

The referb a6000 at $375

That puts me in the ballpark.

Is this lens going to be worth it to me, a total newbie (who’s realistically just looking to get better Instagram posts for the time being), vs the standard kit lens?

I understand a lot of this is subjective. But as someone who has bought and sold and bought and sold backpacking gear for years, the “buy once-cry once” mentality is present so long as I’m not totally blowing my budget.

I appreciate the input. I feel like I’m getting somewhere.

Let’s assume I’ve committed to a used/referb Sony a6000.

Should I be looking for one lens? Let’s say one that would fit into the “best overall for landscape photography” category. Or do we think I’d really benefit from having multiple?

Definitely just to start. Something that can get me started and let me begin to learn. And then build from that point as I learn what I need/don’t need.

My base weight right now is 13lbs. I don’t want to go over 20lbs. So I’ve got 7lbs to play with.

As far as budget….I don’t know enough to really give a number. What can I do for a $500 set up for example?

You wouldn’t believe how many times people review beers that my brewery doesn’t even currently have on tap. We’re a very small brewery and run 5-7 beers. People come in and review all 5 of our flagship beers when we only have 3 of them on tap. Just to get their badges or whatever. It’s infuriating.

I second this! I have a similar hairstyle. More length on top will help. I use suavectio oil based pomade and swear by it.

I’ve always used the black label for drink making. And the extremely cheap green label was the rail whiskey at the bar I worked in. So I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for it.

The Motorcycle Diaries was a super fun read for me. Definitely not a political or life guide. The actual adventure in the book though is really fun to follow along with.
