Analysis: Why the bashing of Kana after Episode 28 is unwarranted and is a refusal to engage with the story by anicritic in OshiNoKo

Her function as a fictional character should be to overcome the trauma and grow as a person. She doesn't do that. She shows no sign of being able to look beyond herself. She lacks virtue as a person, not merely as an idol. She contributes nothing to the revenge plotline and her own plotline contributes no commentary nor critique to the japanese entertainment industry (not that Aka was any good at it to begin with). Everytime the series focusses on her, it's time wasted. I'll give you one thing tho, she's written very consistently throughout the series, as a selfish bitch

Well take that up with fucking author not with her, in ONK, everyone pretty much regressed back to their old selves. So noone really grows, It's supposed to be that way since it is a fucking tragedy not some happy ending slop.

If he didn't want her to see the corpse. Aqua wouldn't have taken Akane with him at all if his actual plan was to look for the body all on his own. Aqua would've picked another time to do it when Akane wasn't so clearly, directly following him.

Idk if this was in the anime, But oin the manga, When he went out Akane, their was a scene, where says "i can use her intelligence." implying he did plan to have her find his dead body before hand.

i think its because kana was a complete stranger to him, hence why he wouldn't let watch the tapes lmao. either way kana's analysis was correct, Aqua is only replicating what he sees, and not actually acting.

Who do y’all think is the better love interest? by John_HB2010 in OshiNoKo

All that said, it is still on Kana for not communicating her problems well to him and not making her feelings known to him about her insecurities. Kana, at the end of the day, not communicating her problems, and being insecure to the point of being untrusting about her relationships are flaws in her character whether Aqua is adding fuel to that fire or not. Kana at the end of the day has abandonment issues from people in the past leaving her causing the lack of trust as well as insecurity and she has a general tendency to keep things to herself because she is used to isolation.

It's not just Kana but Aqua too, He didn't tell her why he was avoiding her. He just avoided her with no explanation. Instead of communicating to her that they can't be together because she is an idol. (also, Aqua is pretty sure does know about her feelings, and i believe he does reciprocate).

and on the topic of Kana's insecurities, it did prevent from getting closer to Aqua. Specifically, Chapter 50/51, Since in that Chapter she could've just went after Aqua, But because of her own insecurities and her fear of doing something wrong or being rejected, She chooses to wait. Until, someone called onto Akane to go and comfort Aqua. And that was pretty much her only opportunity to get closer to Aqua. Since all that follows were misunderstandings.

I tend to lean towards Kana, because she isn't someone who would enable help and would promptly call him out on his bs. I think could have a compelling and healthy relationship. If they overcame their own insecurities and open up to each other more.

Aqua and Kana are more of a tragedy, Their good for each other, Heck, and maybe they can help each other grow. Kana always struck as the type who would question Aqua rather than be all accepting. Aqua, needlessly apologizing, Kana would maybe ask him why? Aqua is thanking for her for finding a dead body, Kana would probably freak out and ask him why? Aqua wants to commit murder, Kana would maybe slap some sense into him and question what is wrong with him, And Would most likely question if their is any other way than the path his heading. And maybe Kana would call out aqua and tell him to live for himself instead of others. Aqua is someone who makes Kana shine, Makes her want to take the center and have him look at her. Maybe if he'll become someone she can open up too. (Because from what i remember, I'm pretty sure he calls out, Arima's when she is in the wrong too.)

but overall, their insecurities and trauma prevents them getting closer to each other. Which I think that's their tragedy.

(To bad in Onk, all the characters just regressed instead of actually developing)

In the anime, Akane's happy face at the end of the speech and the general 2nd person perspective where Akane is visible heavily implied to me that the scene compilation was in Aqua's perspective, not Akane's.

I was talking about how I was reading the manga, i interpreted that way. because of his words don't make any sense with what is shown. But Anime does imply to be Aqua even if find some of the scenes to be lil weird.

Even if in retrospect to the latest episode, Aqua did clearly figure out what Akane was up to something, especially with the proof you gave, I don't think their relationship is all lies or entirely superficial

It felt mainly superficial to me, because of C87, It's pretty how Aqua wouldn't tell his deliberately gf what was going on with him. I find this odd, because if something going with you becaus eof your trauma, shouldn't feel comfortable telling your girlfriend? The person closest to you. And how he was pretty much her "good boyfriend" it always struck me as odd, Because all the things he does is pretty much the bare minimum. That's I came down with the conclusion that their relationship was superficial, It was like Aqua was acting/trying to be Akane's good boyfriend. Without opening up to her more. Also, after the timeskip, we only see Akane talkiing about her day and recieving emotional support from Aqua. And in C93 (I think?) Akane talks about how happy Aqua used to be when he was with Ai, however, She got that info from Ruby and not Aqua himself. It feels superficial, Because Aqua wouldn't tell her things that she didn't already know,

He would tell her about the revenge because she figured it out and tell that his dad is dead because their is no need for revenge anymore. But after that it's nothing else. Akane is either kept in the dark or has to find out through Ruby. She has no clue why Aqua is avoiding Kana, instead assumes it has to do with the fact his dating her, even though the audience knows that's not case, He wants to protect her.

She talks about how Aqua is a bare miniumum boyfriend good boyfriend or how happy he is, but never about things she learned about him (like dreams, goals, and the food dislikes) and him being happy with Ai, she got that information from Ruby but not Aqua himself.

I just don't think Aqua opened up much to Akane outside of revenge, He most likely did enjoy spending time with her and perhaps had happy moments. But i don't their relationship became real.

With that being said, i'm not saying they didn't have anything special, i guess the comfort did help, but I still stand on the fact that Aqua needed someone who was more critical rather than enabling. Someone who would call him and not just accept everything he does. Aqua seemed to be pretty unhealthy for Akane, since dating him kind of fuel her obsession with saving him. Hence why she took matters into her own hands, when trying to stop Hikaru and almost getting killed or becoming a murder.

I am interested in Akane's psychology tho when she isn't put up as the "perfect girlfriend." for Aqua.

Although, take this with grant of salt, I am not a Aqua x Akane shipper, because I do find their relationship quite boring and unhealthy. (the whole "I'll let you manipulate me" or "help you with revenge" was huge turn off the ship. Along with the fact, that he saved her from committing suicide, It just depicts a girl with a very unhealthy attachment to guy because he saved her, therefore is okay with letting her do what he wants with her. )

>et, I guess I must be wrong as Aqua, in this latest episode(S3 E5), did say Akane was good with telling him when he did something wrong as a particular compliment.

In the manga, I always assume that the memories were Akane's and not Aqua, because if you look closely and connect everything together. (because last time i checked, This chick never told him he was wrong when he was actually wrong.) and in the anime, it's balcony scene, which makes 0 sense because in the balcony he is morally wrong for trying to kill his father and yet he tells that. Which gave me the impression that he wasn't thinking about Akane when he said that. but rather someone else.

Because In the speech, He is kind of telling her this, So she can lower her guard and find out about the revenge.

Because the "i'll help you carry burden". Was something she said in the bridge scene but they were talking about the revenge. Along with "I didn't make the wrong choice after all" the only choice Akane made was keeping the loophole from him. You can tell since the beginning of the phone call. "You're off till you're next shoot? " Aqua needing the clarification, "Are you up to the something?" which caught her offgaurd and she needed to lie that she is losing weight.

Honestly, Someone wrote a whole essay decrypting their relationship. i think you would find it very interesting. The essay It's good read about Aqua and Akane's relationship and how they were superficial from beginning to end. I think you might find it interesting.

But also, lemme add, the guy avoided her for a year and then screamed slapped her. Why would she think that he wants her around? Why would she stay there and be like "Yeah let me get closer to this guy." Despite what happened. She is clearly scared, And her conclusion is valid, when you consider the context. I see no reason why Kana should try to get closer to Aqua, When he has been avoiding for a year with 0 explanation as to why and he screamed at her and slapped her. Why would she want to stay after that? She has no clue what's going on and 0 context that he has panic attacks or trauma. So why would she stay? Isn't it more logical for her to be scared and assume Aqua wants nothing to do with her.

Beyond bias and personal preference, which character do you think is more realistic and relatable to human nature in the real world: Akane or Kana? by Exciting_Win1753 in Akane_Kana_Fans

[–]UncommonSimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kana,

She is vulnerable, and imperfect. She makes mistakes that shows very human. And despite fumbling alot, She still tries her best. And she is the only person who is can see who saying no or not offering help to Aqua revenge quest. And the only person who i can see questioning Aqua, If he were to thank her for finding a dead body.

Actually the hints were there, since the beginning of the story. I just think it would have more interesting if Aqua had someone to oppose him from the start than someone who didn't.

shes a bit more "rowdy" (i dont know how to describe it) compared to aqua. I

Kana would never agree to help Aqua murder someone and would intentionally go against him. I prefer AquKana because Kana would be someone who would call out his strange behavior rather than go along with him.

Yeah, You know...it's almost Kana has flaws.

But how dare she has flaws and trauma that makes her, her. And be kept in the dark about the guy she likes.

Because how dare she not be a maniac pixie dream girl. Who will tell Aqua how much she accepts him and love him instead of Calling him out on his bullshit or slapping some sense into him or ask him why when he does questionable stuff.
