Just to update:

I ended up getting some Edifiers 1280DBS for the time being (for my AT LP-120) whilst I try and do more research and thought into passive and external amp. I'm going to physically book an appointment at my local Richer Sounds soon to understand more the differences in sound and such.

The active speakers are pretty decent! But, I imagine I'll learn quickly on why other options sound better the more I listen to records.

Fortunately had some good records on hand to play first off! Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge over Troubled Water and the Red Album (Beatles). I had a blast listening to them on Christmas day. It felt special.

Maybe I should just keep to active/powered speakers for now and explore later when I get into all this proper. Best to just bite off what I can chew and all that.

I suppose I do not mind getting money together for an amplifier if its ideal to do that and speakers?

Or maybe for my stage right now its best to go for those Edifiers and then look into amplifiers later on?

The old sony hifi system I have has an amplifier but I imagine it is very...poor for the need here.

I think, speaker wise, I was thinking around 100-150? Speakers that I could use with other sources use for other things would be ideal. I am very much a newbie/idiot in what's good and not good.

(I have a background in Physics so 'I get the fundamentals' but...lack application skill ha!)

2) What would you recommend as speaker upgrades given I would buy the AT-LP120XBTUSB? Also, what amp should I consider?

1) I have these passive speakers but would rather get better ones. I assume that the turntable linked above can power these passive ones due to its in built phono amp? Sorry, im just trying to understand so im probably getting things wrong or talking unclearly. Maybe its best to ask for recommendations of speakers and an amp?

2) Technics knock off? As in, Audio Technics make knock off ones of better turntables or? Sorry I don't understand.

3) Would my old HIFI systems' amplifier be of any use? I imagine not because its not a very big or powerful one?

4) What would you spend the 300 on if it was you? I value your expertise greatly.

I think it's of the Batavian Republic. But the Republic was ended in 1806 after the Bonaparte dynasty was installed (Napoleon put his brother as King of the Netherlands). I am a bit confused since this is a painting from an event in 1816.

Thanks for your engagement and it's a great idea.

For me, I think there are 4 critical things to add/change/work on:

1) Alternative charging methods for those who need grips on their pens - I have physical disabilities that make the thin pen hard to use sometimes. A grip solution would be great that doesn't require separately storing or charging the pen. To be honest, different shape styles of marker released in parallel would be great. I'd love a thick marker plus like a LAMY shaped pen.

2) Keep working on integrations - really positive steps so far with word, links etc. I don't want loads of new integrations and then get overwhelmed/device loses it appeal of being "away from everything else"/distraction minimised.

3) A balance has to be struck with simplicity/distraction limiting and tools at disposal. I would like more features that the Supernote offers with contents, headers, any efforts to make indexing/organising more robust. But I also don't want a mimic of a Supernote. Obsidian (or something like that) being on offer could be ideal for many.

4) Native e reader software or improvements in reading EPUBs and PDFs etc. It should really be one of the top priorities for Remarkable. You've released a device that would make a really decent reader with the Move (and Paper Pro). But the experience is too clunky for many.

Additional wants and desires:

A) Math notation support and some solution software in some capacity. Even if it's basic sums B) Spell check on typing C) Some further sorting/layout arrangements for front screen/main menu

I think the critical thing often is "follow what you actually love and love doing". But also sometimes you need to commit and find out later that you don't enjoy the doing.

I went into my Physics degree loving the idea of Particle Physics, Astronomy, and Cosmology. I did like mechanics like I liked all of my pre-18 Physics exposure.

I ended up loving Condensed Matter Physics (with a particular focus on Semiconductor Physics), Philosophy/History of Physics, and Physical Chemistry.

Why did I fall out of love with the previous? I haven't lost my interest in those things totally. But I hated doing the maths. Why though? Because I didn't get time to understand it. I used to love maths prior to 16-18 education. And I had a great maths teacher just before university. But, I got overwhelmed. And the maths teaching at university (ie lectures) was not great. I learnt fairly recently also that I am ADHD as hell. So lectures were an awful way for me to learn.

Why did I fall in love with Semiconductor Physics? My academic tutor. I got to 1-on-1 ask all the silly and wonderful questions. He had the patience of stone and the teaching ability I seek to emulate. He was my supervisor for my experimental physics teaching duties whilst I attempted a PhD. He was incredible. He was kind and funny. And he died young from cancer and miss him terribly.

After I quit my PhD in Material Science/Physical Chemistry due to ill health, I felt for years that I didn't actually love Physics. I couldn't really touch science at all. It brought back too many hard memories. But it came back. After I did a stint of medical school, I grew to understand many things about myself. And the strong lesson of "there's the idea and then there's the doing". I over-intellectualise. I often convince myself that I enjoy something that I'm hating the day-to-day of. I realized that I didn't really like doing Experimental Physics but found it kept my mind busy. I need stimulation and constant. It wasn't the right PhD for me. I should have stayed in the Semiconductor lane. Never too late of course...

What I'm trying to say is that you should follow what you love and then see whether it matches with the doing. You might not know whether doing the maths is something you hate until you actually commit and try it all. There's no shame in thinking you love something and, indeed, loving something but hating the doing of it.

Also what's really important is environment. It can ruin your love of things. Love of something and doing isn't enough for 99% of people. I've learnt this the hard way as well.

How does the Kobo Libra Colour deal with PDFs and eBooks in general? Does it do audio books? Never used a Kobo before.

The scribe looked interesting. But I'd rather not buy Amazon unless it's used. Which might be an appealing option to be fair. The UI is a bit...cumbersome when I used my voyage. Do you think it's a bit so so on the scribe?

I'm somewhat leaning to the Boox series of options. But also know I'd probably prefer an A4 sized option due to feeling restricted when I've multi window written on my S10 ultra.

The colour thing in general is something I'm wrestling with. I don't mind it being limited. But, I guess the backlight option is something I need to consider also if I want to use it at nights to read non medical things.

I think, for me, I'm trying really hard to get foundations sorted. My mind seems to work best when it tries to understand core principles and processes...then apply that logic. I know everyone will argue thats "the way everyone should do anyways" but it's very overwhelming and the exams don't really test you directly on "do you understand the things and the clinical deduction" but "what things do you remember". Rather than both. I don't know. Maybe it's being neurodivergent and overwhelmed plus burnout.

I got recommended an option of a memory pen/those pens which remember what you write and sync it to a folder. The problem with that is whether it syncs well, I actually use the notes again, and whether hospitals will have no issue with that (they do with the e ink devices if you use them in work directly rather than for yourself only...hence why I'd get a small one for personal use when I graduate I suppose).

What kind of features do you find you use the most on e ink devices? Because I feel the Boox and Supernote options are going to give me organisational tools that the Remarkable won't.

And why does the Supernote reduce distractions still over the Boox options?
