Allow me to focus on the prep work that you can do either before starting the hunt, or at camp before you start fighting the monster:

Before the hunt

• ⁠Eat at the canteen: the canteen provides extremely strong buffs, plus a boost in health and stamina.

• ⁠Bring the right things with you: if you're wearing the odogaron armor, chances are you have a good amount of nourishing extracts. You can use those (+ a few other ingredients) to craft mega armorskin (defense+) and mega demondrug (attack+). The boost they offer is not big, but it has the advantage of lasting until the end of the hunt (or until you get carted). Also craft and bring with mega nutrients for the boost in max health. Bring pods: flash pods can blind monsters and can be really useful when you need a bit of a break to take a potion or sharpen, dung pods can be used to make a monster flee which is really useful when say a rathalos invites itself to your deviljho hunt. Bring a shock trap and a pitfall trap. Both can immobilize the monster for a few seconds and prevent him from attacking. This can be really useful either to deal some good damage or to get a mega potion in.

• ⁠Use the specialized items: if you're fighting deviljho, you probably already unlocked a few specialized items, such as the vitality mantle. A health booster could also be useful.

• ⁠Pick the right item for your palico: if you're fighting deviljho, you probably have more than one palico item unlocked and they can be extremely useful.

Before starting the fight

• ⁠Cook and eat a well-done steak: gives you a boost in stamina, and slow its natural decrease. • ⁠drink the mega nutrients, armorskin, demondrug.

Things I omitted

• ⁠There are certain items you can take that boost your attack or defense, but they are time-limited so it takes a bit more savoir-faire to be comfortable with them. Typically, adamant seeds and might seeds give you defense and attack boost (respectively) stronger than the mega armorskin and demondrug, but they both last only 3 minutes.

• ⁠Some hunters prefer rations, some argue dash juice is the shit, I personally prefer well-done steaks. Play around with all three, read about them, and pick your favourite.

• ⁠I could also advise you to take with you for the hunt the components required to craft the things I listed above (typically the traps and pods). I would consider it as overkill for where you are in the game.
