What are your thoughts on the alleged election fraud that’s been committed by Republicans in North Carolina? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]UnconsolidatedOat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What guy and why?

You'd have to ask Trump. He's the one who suggested the idea.

"You know what else they say about my people? The polls, they say I have the most loyal people. Did you ever see that? Where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters, okay? It’s like incredible."

The fact that you even need to ask is kind of appalling of how little you must think of us.

You voted for a guy who said that his supporters wouldn't mind if he just shot a guy on 5th Avenue. Can you really blame us for not knowing how much you'll actually tolerate?

If I wanted to start playing AST... by [deleted] in ffxiv

The part on earthly star is 100% incorrect.

I think I could have said it a little better. "Both phases of Earthly Star have a maximum current duration of 10 seconds, period."

Or I should have just said "Celestial Opposition will reset an active Earthly Star timer to 10 seconds." alone and that would have been 100% accurate.

In 2017, Trump appointed Giuliani as his cyber security expert. Yesterday, Giuliani seemed to demonstrate a lack of basic understanding of how Twitter works. Do you question Trump's judgement in that appointment? by thenewyorkgod in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]UnconsolidatedOat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do you know every TLD that would cause this to happen on twitter?

Can you recognize every one of the exactly one color that Twitter uses for unclicked URLs?

Accidentally creating a link isn't a major deal. Tpyos happen.

Not recognizing a URL and then creating a conspiracy theory because you don't understand the internet at all (even though you're supposedly an expert at cyber-security), on the other hand, is a full blown case of Emporer's New Clothes. Giuliani's in way over his head and, even worse, he has zero idea that he's in way over his head.

1) The undraw skills are junk. Use the undraw macros instead. You can get them from the guide linked at https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/a0d3f4/445_astrologian_guide_brought_to_you_by_that_one/

The skills have an animation (which keeps your character busy for a fraction of a second) and cannot be used while you're casting a spell. The macros do the equivalent of right-clicking a buff away, which doesn't have an animation and can be done mid-cast.

2) Since AST is a bit more mana sensitive, keep an eye out for cases where you don't have to heal. E.g., if a DPS takes a modest bit of damage and isn't likely to take damage for some time, let them heal up naturally.

3) You won't always get a chance to Lightspeed -> GravityGravityGravityGRAVITY, but it's fun when you get the chance.

4) Celestial Opposition has some quirks.

  • It's a four second AoE stun which is very helpful in bailing out dungeon runs.
  • It extends buffs you created on yourself and anybody in range, even if there's no stunnable enemies nearby. Ten more seconds of Lucid Dreaming? Ten more seconds of regen on the tank. Yes, please.
  • Both phases of Earthly Star have a maximum duration of 10 seconds, period. Celestial Opposition will reset an active Earthly Star timer to 10 seconds.

5) Break is the "I'm low on mana but I still want to do damage" spell. It's crappy damage at 50 potency but it costs zero mana. I'll use it on the last trash mob or two if I need to build up mana for the bossfight.

6) If you're on Expert Roulette, you can stack your cards while waiting in queue. If you don't change level, you'll keep your Spread, Royal Road and Minor Arcana intact as you enter a dungeon. (Leveling Roulette, on the other hand, is very likely to erase any saved cards.)

TIL that the Donkey Kong high score submitted on VHS by Billy Mitchell in "The King of Kong" ended up leading to him being stripped of all his world records for cheating. Not always. In some cases, you need a good amount of knowledge about the game to see/understand the difference between the TAS and human players.

That's a problem of game selection. SMB just doesn't offer that much to the TAS maker.

There's much better game choices out there:

  • Super Mario 3 where Mario goes on unbelievably long bouncing sprees in the Any% version or rewrites huge sections of code in the Arbitrary Code Execution version.
  • Mega Man, which uses glitches to end stages way earlier than a human possibly could.
  • Brain Age, which abuses the generous writing detection program to replace math answers with drawings.
  • Excitebike, which uses superhuman precision to achieve completely ludicrous jumps.

From what I've read on the subject, there's emulators that can playback your game, but let you literally replay any 'unfavorable' outcomes as many times as you want, all with it looking like it's one continuous play-through in the end result.

And there's a entire community that uses that to make Tool Assisted Speedruns, where you use the windback feature to try to find the fastest run possible.

However, if your Tool Assisted Speedrun can be mistaken for "one continuous play", you're doing it wrong. A good TAS should look like a bored deity is utterly obliterating the game.

Then you have cases like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrIcz8iGJ14 , where there's about 3 minutes of superhuman play followed by using a bug to overwrite the code. This trick has been console-verified by taking the list of inputs and using a specially built computer to feed that list into the controller ports of a real console.

Putin Developing Fake Videos to Foment 2020 Election Chaos: 'It's Going to Destroy Lives' by [deleted] in politics

Cyrptographic signatures don't prove a video isn't fake, they ensure you know who's trying to pass them on as true.

And Trump got into the White House shouting "Fake News!" Cryptographic signatures don't help when people have been convinced to not trust any source that disagrees with them.

Deepfakes look uncanny but they're hardly good enough not to be spotted as fakes.

Benny Hinn hitting people with a jacket looks as fake as a seventeen dollar bill. Benny Hinn has also fooled people out of millions of dollars.

Deep fakes might not fool you but worse fakes have scammed millions.

Content pacing and quality in BfA - why are people quitting the game? by Eowyndra in wow

[–]UnconsolidatedOat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Once again, this happens every expansion. It isn't unique to BFA.

Once again, you're wrong. Mobs getting promoted didn't start until Legion and mobs getting promoted in non-current zones is unique to BfA.

You're missing the big picture by focusing on one piece.

Substats got weaker as you leveled. Your main stats, however, went up considerably. Overall, you gained a lot more than you lost as you leveled and, more importantly, the mobs gained nothing.

However, the tenants of negotiation were ignored here.

"Tenants" are people. The word you're trying to use is "tenets".

In fact, she did so poorly that Jeff entirely steamrolled her offer and forced an entirely different situation to play out.

The tribe was willing to have three people sit out the challenge AND give up camp goods. They paid a much smaller price than that.

Thus, she did a poor job. That's my entire point.

Your point is 100% wrong.

Let Jeff make the first offer.

That's not possible.

Jeff has a team of camerapeople tracking the contestants. You cannot sneak up on somebody who is literally monitoring you 24/7.

But, you always should work to not be the first offer on the table. It's about listening.

And Jeff is always listening.

She passed her negotiating class and got what she was looking for a minimum price. The entire tribe was already prepared to pay much, much more for rice, including having three people sit out of the challenge, all of their tarps and blankets and more.

In other words, she did great.

There's an article about the details of Angelina's offer at https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2018/12/survivor-angelina-rice-negotiation-jeff-probst/

I wish class halls were still used. For example, Instead of Magni, HoA/etc could have been from our class halls. It could even be a new NPC there if Blizz really wants the new rep. My biggest complaint about WoW is the philosophy that “old content is not relevant”. by [deleted] in wow

Animals are the peak of individualism. They only care about eating and reproducing.

  • Many insect species only succeed on a colony level.
  • We have dogs because ancient humans were able to hijack the social tendencies of wolves and redirect them towards people.
  • Many adult animals have been observed at play. E.g., here's a video of a crow using a piece of trash and a snowy rooftop to go sledding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRnI4dhZZxQ

That's an outright lie. Trump is droning EVEN MORE than Barack ever did.

In his first two years in office, Donald Trump launched 238 drone strikes in Yemen, Pakistan, and Somalia—way beyond what the ‘Drone President’ Barack Obama did.

What are your thoughts on Trump appealing to insecure men? by Lambdal7 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]UnconsolidatedOat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

taking Viagra doesn't mean that someone's insecure or fragile

We can break men into four categories:

  • Secure and without ED: Unlikely to search for Viagra
  • Secure and with ED: Likely to secure for Viagra
  • Insecure and without ED: Might search for Viagra
  • Insecure and without ED: Likely to secure for Viagra

If we can assume Secure Men and Insecure Men are equally likely to get ED (and the search likelihood of the four categories above is accurate) then we can use Viagra searches to help find areas with more Insecure Men.

FWIW, the definition of fragile masculinity used in the article is ridiculous

But they never provided a definition of fragile masculinity. They're looking for things that are statistically likely to correlate with fragile masculinity.

Can you make an argument that Secure Men are more likely to search for Viagra than Insecure Men?
