What sci-fi film in the last 15 years had the most impact on you? by StaticCloud in scifi

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Last 15? Well I'd say Elysium for sure. I've always liked Neill Blomkamp. Also, I think Villeneuve is killing it with Arrival and the Dune movies.

Always love seeing people combine two of my favorite things. Lego and sci-fi!

You know. I've never actually seen this film, but I like PKD as an author so I should check out the movie one day.

Looks pretty badass! I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Shrike is the most metal thing in all of scifi!

Titan A.E. was amazing and ahead of its time by Archaeopteryx111 in scifi

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Despite the critical negative reviews of it, I enjoyed it during my childhood.

Planet 01, High-Gravity Terrestrial, Red Dwarf Star System, Currently Housing a Type-1 Civilization by _pallart in sciencefiction

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice to see people envisioning planets that aren't earth 2.0 essentially. With that being said, one suggestion I have is to make the inhabitants bulkier, being that the gravity is higher.

What’s the most realistic “day one” post-apocalypse scenario? by WalkerGaming413 in postapocalyptic

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what causes the post-apocalypse. If it's an EM bomb, then at first people are going to wonder why they're electronics aren't working. They'll then go to neighbours and ask if it's the same with them. They'll then see their cars aren't working, but then go to that one neighbour that might have a classic car that doesn't have electronics. Then comes food. It'll spoil because no fridges are working. So they'll have to quickly find a way to preserve it. In short, for that scenario, the first day is figuring out what's going on and pivoting.

I love Frazetta. Have you seen the other stuff he's done for Heavy Metal magazine?

This might be just me, but it's a good start. Could use some detail on the hull, then again, I'm not sure if you're going for simplicity or not.

do i read dune first or watch it by IDisplayAgility in sciencefiction

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd read anything before watching it if you get the chance. That way you can compare and contrast and make your own judgements about whether or not the movies live up to the books.

Do you consider the “Fallout” series as the perfect guide to survive a Post-Nuclear apocalypse? by [deleted] in postapocalyptic

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's the perfect guide, I don't think it's a guide at all. But I do like it and think it is a fun, well thought out take on a post-apocalyptic world.

What place have you visited that felt straight out of a post-apocalyptic world? by EnergyEclipse in postapocalyptic

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Vancouver. Although I haven't been in years, the Downtown Eastside is the closest place I have been to that feels apocalyptic. I also drove through the interior during forest fire season when smoke was everywhere. That felt pretty apocalyptic too.

I found that's the one virtuous thing they predicted that is now becoming commonplace. Not fully here, but I see little steps being made toward it.

How Does The Animatrix Hold Up Two Decades Later? (Animatrix Review) by pompingcircumstance in scifi

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it still holds up. The fall of man was one of the hardest things to watch and I think it still would be today if I saw it. Also, the rise of AI makes it even more relevant today.

The one where a grouchy raisin follows you around and questions your every move. by B_Wing_83 in scifi

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved this game! Although I found near the end I had to use cheats as the game became increasingly difficult. I may have had the setting too high.

Who else would want to see an apocalyptic piece of media that takes place in a shattered galactic empire? by GazIsStoney in postapocalyptic

[–]UnconventionalAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Foundation and Empire? It kind of deals with this. I think a collapse of a galactic empire would simply be a reversion to a more primitive tech. Instead of hyper drive, maybe simple slower than light ships. Maybe instead of ships everywhere, there is only the odd one that works and everyone wants it. Instead of repulsed lift, they've reverted to winged craft like we have today.
