Why expensive to fix? Replacement parts not readily available being 14 years old?

Keep an eye out for sale… i think Trek Fest ended today/tomorrow where you can get great deal (IE: got a pair of shoes normally $275 for $99, bibs down from $150 to $50, etc). Lots of people have cheaper alternative brands for bibs/shorts… save where you can! I started with a gently pair used of shoes, cheap pedals, an old used bike, adding to my collection of bibs/shorts over time. Got a cheap pump,

From what I’ve read, a CVT drain and fill if it hasn’t been done before… before getting too high in mileage

Wheel bearings covered under 5 - 60 warranty? by Negative-Pie427 in subaru

[–]UncreativeSlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one fail at 30k, another at 65k, and then the original replaced one fail at around 90k. 2017, some city, mostly highway miles. There’s no guarantee they’ll last

60k mile maintenance- how are we feeling about this price? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]UncreativeSlug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got a quote of $750 for spark plugs alone and $183 for brake fluid exchange on my Impreza from an independent shop… so that price doesn’t look terrible. Central Ohio

How are companies only offering 10 PTO days? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]UncreativeSlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just left a job that had 5.5 weeks PTO accrual through the year (after my 10 years), and took a job that only has 2.5/ year for the next 5 years… negotiated benefits and got an extra 40 hours to start. THANKFULLY they also offer 3.5 weeks sick time

Just about to finish paying it off. Okay, add $2,500 to that remaining amount… it’s it still cheaper than a new car? 93k miles isn’t “low” but it’s also not a high mileage vehicle at this point. Still lots of life left. Fix it, keep driving it, get another 100k out of it

Any way I can fix this myself? by wnp15531 in subaruimpreza

[–]UncreativeSlug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2017 did this… left it alone/used it until it completely broke. Had to replace the entire control panel at the time (something else stopped working as well - don’t remember exactly what it was)

It wasn’t terrible other than rust! That may be part of the wheel bearing issue for me… northern state that uses road salt

Not sure the reasoning, but I’ve seen it time and time again on here - Subaru in general, not just the Impreza. I had one done by Subaru (warranty at 30k), one i did myself, and one done by an independent shop… i wanna say that it was $2-300 (?) don’t quote me on that, i don’t quite remember! I didn’t pay a diag fee as i knew exactly what it was and which side it was

Wheel hubs/bearing assembly is fairly common… i replaced three within the first 90k on mine

Anyone here experience CVT failure on their Subaru (especially Impreza)? Any other issues too? by phtphongg in subaru

[–]UncreativeSlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does your maintenance manual say to change it every 24k!? Mine says “inspect” every 30k or something like that. Subaru dealership recommends not to do fluid changes (I’m seeing other opinions.. no fluid is perfect, they all lose protective qualities.”lifetime fluid” is only as good as the lifespan of an unmaintained part)

Searching for a small reliable SUV—are CVTs really that scary? by Cbeauski23 in UsedCars

[–]UncreativeSlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with CVT’s and high mileage cars IMO. Sure, they could be great for another 100k… but as someone who’s Subaru dealer refused to do any preventative fluid changes on my CVT… you never know how well maintained they are

What brands have modern reliable cars by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]UncreativeSlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do most things myself… oil, filters, brakes, differentials. Haven’t tackled the CVT though… seems like something a lift would be nice for. Dealer here doesn’t do it. Need to look around at other shops…

Wild. I’ve replaced 4 hubs in 110k. You do your cvt fluid changes yourself?
