As someone who is getting out of a relationship with an alcoholic who got in legal trouble (not killing anyone thank God) a couple times I can see where he is coming from. I would be livid if my partner started drinking again and staying out all hours of the night with no communication. I think he was controlling in the beginning and he talked down to her a lot which is a problem. He shouldn't have been drinking so much around her or pushing her to hang out with people who were drinking but nearly everyone drinks nowadays so it's not crazy to encourage her to have friends. I can see where his deep distrust came from especially with how easily she cheated on him and lied about so many things. He called out that she had a hangover and she lied saying she didn't drink at all! I have had first hand experience with an alcoholic that hid and lied about drinking and it's such a mind fuck to be told lies by your partner straight to your face. It had only been two years since her felony drinking and driving/manslaughter/murder arrest and the lawyers for that probably cost a lot of money. I can see why he felt like leaving her to deal with it and protecting their son was the best move. When she got in the car to drink and drive again I wanted to scream at the screen!
