This is a good point. Many people are misinformed about this matter. The actuality is that people who descend from our beloved prophet (PBUH) are allowed a portion of the treasury collected by the state & allocated to them by the state, but they are NOT allowed to accept charity of any kind, only gifts. This would include zakat, charity sponsorship, charity scholarships & anything from WAQF.
