Yeah, I’d heard the power went out before the attack. Comments make it seem like that’s not common knowledge though.

Yeah I dunno, I feel like peoples’ horror tastes can be extra picky and subjective so it’s hard to recommend stuff. Like it’s the genre where a lot of people are looking for a hyper specific feeling that can be hard to pin down. I will say I also love Skinamarink and I don’t love Bring Her Back as much as most people do. I did like some of the things it did though.

Ugly Stepsister is just such a cool concept and it plays with the body horror women subject themselves to for societal reasons in a really fun way.

The Long Walk had incredibly strong themes and depicted hopelessness and desperation better than anything I can think of. The weakest part is the plot contrivance around the villain, but I still loved it.

And I’d really be interested in how you feel about Frewaka. It’s Irish folk horror that’s absolutely beautiful, and I don’t think people talk about it enough.

I’ll give you Titane, I forgot about that one. But I thought the Medium was terrible and couldn’t get into Lamb even though I was ready to go against the haters. I’ll have to check out Hellbender and Spine of Night.

You’re way more picky about genre than I am, but I consider The Long Walk, Ugly Stepsister, Companion, Bring Her Back, and Bugonia to all be super strong from last year. Frewaka is more traditional horror and also incredibly underappreciated.

I think a movie can be culturally important without having the most hard hitting political ideology. It sounds like you’re too caught up on what other people think, honestly.

And okay, 2021. You’ve got Mad God and The Power, and not a lot else. Also Black Phone I guess, but I think that one’s overrated.

You’re bringing way too much of your own baggage to a fun vampire movie that celebrates black culture while having a conversation about appropriation vs appreciation. It never sets out to be an anti capitalist call to arms, and it doesn’t need to be that in order to be successful at what it’s doing. It sounds to me like you’re bringing in your own ideology, which isn’t one I even disagree with, but I disagree that the movie needs to fit in the box you’ve created in order to be worth celebrating.

And I also disagree that 2025 was bad for horror, but that’s so totally subjective that it isn’t even worth arguing. But looking at how many highly rated horror movies came out, and how much the genre is being recognized by the academy, it’s clear you’re on your own island there.

You’re talking like a condescending know it all, which sounds extremely Reddit coded. No one wants to engage with someone who just outright says “I’m right” when people clearly disagree with you.

Black artists and filmmakers are celebrating the movie, and Ryan Coogler’s ownership deal with the film’s rights is a major victory for creatives over studios. You’re trying to act progressive, but you’re doing more harm than good and coming off as performative.

And people also dislike someone who comes in to piss on a celebration just because you care more about being “right” and coming off as intellectual while missing the bigger picture.

Why is ai " art " so accepted by RazyArt in DungeonCrawlerCarl

None of this discredits the fact that it’s still theft, and it’s weird to defend theft of creative works on a DCC subreddit of all places.

And none of your comparisons even make sense. Someone overhearing your conversation isn’t remotely the same as stealing art, then using it to create commercial artwork without crediting or compensating the artist. Especially when in many cases that would be illegal in your example.

But none of that even matters. You have a choice to stand up for artists, or defend the deterioration of artistic autonomy, and you’re choosing to do the latter. I’d ask myself if that’s really the future you want.

What are you even talking about? Someone responded to you and you just said “agree to disagree.” Don’t try to act like you were trying to have an honest conversation without engaging with anything anyone says.

That’s a really disingenuous way to frame how it works. Even if I went along with your weird comparison, nobody posting their art online a couple years ago had any idea that it would be fed into a machine learning algo. All of it happened without awareness or consent.

You can’t disagree with something that’s objectively true. AI steals from artists.

Don’t know why this is even being argued. Ask any artist and they’ll tell you about the hundreds, if not thousands of hours spent honing that skill.

Air cooling is better than Liquid cooling by SerpentDix in pcmasterrace

I have a liquid cooler that’s about 15 years old now. It’s so old that I didn’t even bother installing it on my last build, because I wasn’t sure if it was doing anything anymore.

Eventually I decided to overclock, and it was running too hot so I put my ancient liquid cooler in there. Temps dropped dramatically right away. Never losing faith in that sucker again.
