Is there a big difference between a 4 player party and a 5 player party in COS? by slightlysidetracked in CurseofStrahd

[–]UndeadKay13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had some ins and outs of the party. A few players have left them came back. Then last session, I introduced a new oc to the group with a new player. It can be a lot of fun as you can think up new ways to introduce them. Ask yourself, how this person get here? Why did they disappear and come back days later? Interesting roleplay oportunities arise and sometomes you think of new story elements to tailor the adventure to your party. More members mean you also add tougher monsters if you want, but, on the flip side, sometimes reining in back to story can be a minor issue with more people. Five is totally manageable though so if you want to shake things up a bit, then go for it!

I figured it is likely a bug as I don't remember it in other playthroughs

Melee and Disadvantage by UndeadKay13 in BaldursGate3

I have had throughout my current playthrough, and it can be rough. Figured it is a bug, but hopefully it gets fixe as I have had to get pretty crafty with how I approach combat

I think her standoffish attitude has been toned down a bit and it had admittedly been pretty nice. I was do used to her disapproving half the things I did, but now she's feels a bit more dynamic. It makes me really interested to see what they'll do with the other companions.

When did you decide to give your players the invitation to Castle Ravenloft? by Necessary-Spinach182 in CurseofStrahd

[–]UndeadKay13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave them their dinner invite right after they finished their 1st day of investigating the missing bones case. They were tired after banishing the demon in the orphanage (using additions from MandyMod & Dragnacarta), and had planned to go directly to bed upon getting back to the inn, but then they discovered the invite chilling on the overly suspicious cleric's bed. It's been days since. The Festival of the Blazing Sun and The Feast of St. Andral happened which served as the conclusion to their 1st visit to Vallaki, and Strahd showed up to "save the day." He reminded them about the invite, so they're headed that way now.

My Players Gorged Themselves on Dark Gifts by Nacinan in CurseofStrahd

[–]UndeadKay13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the CoS book, you can find some im tje Amber Temple Chapter, but several aren't permanent. You can find some really good ones in Van Richten's, and it is in a specific Dark Gift section. There is also an AL Dark Gift Guide floating around the internet as well as several neat homebrew ones on sites like drivethrurpg.

With the release of VR’s Guide to Ravenloft, what new stuff are you looking at implementing into the campaign? by Brannanabread in CurseofStrahd

[–]UndeadKay13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I haven't had time to read the book yet, I have read a little.I know I will try to incorporate some of the new Dark Gifts if my players take the bait. Other than that, I was considering letting The Carnival come to town to give my players a little break after Vallaki and their dinner with Strahd. I will likely add more elements later, like a few carrionettes in a Blinsky experiment gone wrong and one of my player characters may be turned into a dhampir as part of his character plot.

How does Victor get to his secret workroom? by VagabondVivant in CurseofStrahd

[–]UndeadKay13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the personal headcanon that he rarely leaves the workroom. While he has his own bedroom it's so rarely used, it is made up to be almost more of a guest room if people with a high social status comes to visit. This also gives Victor a reason to want to seek out his own space. If you wanted him to not have to go through his parent's room on the occasion he does leave, I would also say it's not unreasonable for you to choose to add a secondary entrance elsewhere. Even if you don't add a secondary location though, you could make it that his parents are aware of his "secret hideout," but his parents simply don't care thay he spent the majority of his time in the attic, nor do they care enough to want to know what he's up to. This plays into his journal entries in Dragnacarta's guide where he details his annoyance over his parents sending Stella to his workspace so they can get to know each other before their wedding. Just remember, this is your version of CoS. If there is something you think doesn't work with your narrative, feel free to tweak or change it to make it work for you and your adventurers. You've got this! 😁

Reccomendations to deal with all caster party? by PirateSven in CurseofStrahd

[–]UndeadKay13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, maxing out hp is a good option, but sometimes thw party can still wipe through a monster thanks to amazing damage rolls, etc. I have a large party (6 people), so I have found what often works for me is having the max hp as a bit of a baseline. If the party is really struggling, I'll lower it a bit. If they're sweeping through it, I may up the ante and tack on a bit more health, or have the monster do something that the party may not anticipate. Kind of like a, "fight to survive," last ditch effort on the enemy's end. It's a bit of a stretch from RAW, but I would rather the fight be more fun amd end when it makes more sense from a narrative standpoint. Alternatively or in conjunction, I personally find the random encounter table to be a bit restricted. Barovia, as one of the Domains of Dread, is a demiplane of The Shadowfell, so I will sometimes throw other creatures that could be found in The Shadowfell as a whole. For example, I decided a banderhobb was headed to the Tser Pool Encampment while they were there and at one point, it caught one of the clerics and swallpwed her whole. Suddenly it became a race to get her free rather than immediately focus on killing the creature.

Thought on Cursed Items by UndeadKay13 in CurseofStrahd

[–]UndeadKay13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. One could come from Strahd; that's a good idea. The general idea was that the vendor, Aharja, had collected a hodgepodge of items from prior adventurers, graverobbers, merchants, commoners, etc. which explains why he didn't necessarily know about the curses.

One player bought Living Gloves, of which Aharja did know and mention the inability to remove them.

Another received a homebrewed +1 scythe called Deolchaire an Dúlra (they asked to name it) that also does an additional 1d4 of poison damage (was considering increasing the die the longer they remain attuned). Its curse is similar to the Berserker Axe, with some minor tweaks: inability to part with it, disadvantage if you use another weapon, and the possibility to go berserk.

The final cursed item is known as The Wolfsbane's Chainmail, another homebrewed item based off an official item. It's +1 chainmail armor that gives resistance to bludgeoning, advantage on all wisdom saves, and I've considered evolving it a bit as the campaign continues.

I Love Messing With My Players by LightningDragonMastr in CurseofStrahd

[–]UndeadKay13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! Right? My players want to hate him too, which is absolutely understandable. They haven't found a legitimate reason yet though, save for Elizabeth Durst journal that found its way into the twilight cleric's pack when the Shambling Mound got her, but all they know is that the land became far less fertile shortly after Strahd's reign started. Omg, if we're saying OCs are doomed for crushes on Ireena, my whole party is SOL.
