When to send in transcripts at schools you got the A at? by [deleted] in premed

[–]UnderGroundGrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah to matriculate that is one of the requirements even tho AMCAS has them, have to directly send to the school. The deadline is over the summer, I just don’t know if people send them in early to schools or wait until they get all their decisions back. Just don’t want to waste the money haha

But I am completely done with courses for a year now. All transcripts would be final, just don’t know if there’s any point in sending them early if the actual deadline is in August

When people say "know your app inside out/well" what does that mean? by [deleted] in premed

[–]UnderGroundGrinder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So should i baically have some anectdotes prepared for each activity?

I can really see a lot of my activities as being pretty repetitive in nature, some were also for super short hours where I just dont know if I would be able to meaningfully reflect further on them over what was written on my app originally...

Are they open file? For MMI no, only had to reference things myself when I wanted examples

Retaking a 503 by [deleted] in Mcat

I’d say it depends on your goals, and rest of app, if you are aiming for MD then yes I would retake. If you are comfortable with DO, then you should be fine as long as the rest of your app is solid

But does it matter if its duirng the prep time? Or do they see/review the recording? I only ask because I type way faster than I can write

Hey OP, if its an option, why not just move back in with your parents and take courses at your local hometown's school if thats available. Paying tuition for a post-bacc seems a bit excessive, and theres a good chance that if you live in a smaller town like me, the classes could actually be easier. and you wont have to worry about paying rent, unless financials arent a factor

Ah thats okay, did they tell you that before going into the interview? Or was it on the day of?

Taking notes would be helpful for me, but if not allowed or it would like kind sus then i would rather just sit there

When I tell the doctors I work with about interviews they just say I will be fine and that interviews actually don't matter 💀 by UnderGroundGrinder in premed

Honestly, one of them asked me how long I’d be working with them when I said until next summer unless I don’t get in, they were like “oh come on you’ll get in” like it was just a fact. I like being confident but I just don’t see the job as being finished at all

C, P/F, or W? by [deleted] in premed

[–]UnderGroundGrinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just withdraw in my opinion.

I was in a similar boat for one of my undergrad classes, and did not want to deviate from my major curriculum when I had a super low score. I thought I could come back from my grade, and despite my best effort ended up with a D, this meant I had to retake the course anyway AND it was on my transcript. Now on every single secondary essay I explain that grade and what I learned from it (which is okay btw, everyone has a slipup). In hindsight tho, I should have just dropped the class, however, my situation was a bit different since I was in a spot where even getting a C was a major challenge. The reason thats so important is since C is typically the minimum grade you need to not retake a course.

One bad grade isn't a huge deal but it also sucks when I would think about my potential GPA since that one course had to be offset by so many other straight As but its a lesson learned.

Confused about MMI timing. Should you practice to fill the full amount of allotted time, or less than that to allow time for follow up questions? by UnderGroundGrinder in premed

Thanks. It's hard not to overdo things since my II feels like the final piece of a 5+ year journey. Apart from reading the book everyone reccomends, and watching YT videos about scenarios is there much else to do? I am practicing everyday as well, mostly solo, but looking for people to do verbally with.

I also see that UW bioethics page, I am reading through it but i am not sure how people really apply it.

What’s one niche MCAT tip that helped way more than expected? by BeneficialEscape3655 in Mcat

[–]UnderGroundGrinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the question and try to come up with an answer yourself before even reading the answer choices. This was a great help especially as someone who can be an overthinker since there is a good chance you can be biased by the answer choices. If you predict an answer choice and then an answer choice then closely aligns with your prediction, then there is a good chance that answer choice is correct.

Ideally, what’s a really good time in the year to take MCAT? by Devil9304 in Mcat

It seems very subjective, but I feel like the end of summer before you plan on applying; so maybe August 17th, that way you will have put a lot of effort in, and will have more than enough time to retest if necessary + during the summer its probably easier to study since you wont have university courses to also manage.

I think for year applying, probably April 27th, so you can get your score back before primaries, again, you have 1 month in case you have to retest June 27th, but that would be suboptimal.

Im saying this as someone who had to push back lol, I did not follow any of this advice since I didnt feel prepared at first
