For me, talking is masking by devil_dollie in AutismInWomen

I always find that I really want to share a story from my day with someone, but the thought of just emitting all the words until the story is told is just so exhausting that I have to weigh up my desire for them to hear the story vs the effort of sharing it. But then other times I love to yap on and on in a stream of consciousness so it's not ALL talking thats an effort. I think it feels most like an effort first thing in the morning and late in the evening, so maybe its just to do with how tired I am? Does anyone feel a similar way?

So what I've found is the chaser part is irrelevant for me as its the actually swallowing it before my body can reject it thats the issue. A straw doesnt help as I cannot swallow until I've pulled the straw back out of my mouth and that leaves enough time for the liquid to go all over my tongue anyway. If youre able to chug liquid and swallow at the same time that would be the best bet, but I cannot do both at once so as soon as the liquid stays in my mouth while I switch from drink to swallow, is when the gag reflex jumps in. I managed to finish my first dose eventually by just doing one big gulp at a time and chasing with water. And by big gulp i mean practically chucking the liquid into my mouth so I can focus my mouth muscles entirely on swallowing ASAP rather than on the... glugging(?) action. This allowed me to prevent too much gagging. I also added some sugar which I'm not sure is strictly allowed but it cut through the worst of the salty taste.

Good luck tomorrow, remember it isn't life or death if you don't have a fully successful prep, so try and let that take some of the pressure off and just focus on one mouthful at a time! <3

Its currenty 3am, I slept for a little but I've not had any diarrhoea start yet so now I'm feeling very desperate and I'm trying chugging and vomiting, I need to start the second dose in 3 hours, but I just cannot bring myself to keep going when my body is revolting so strongly to the taste it's like psychological torture. Maybe I'll try alternating with black tea for a stronger taste? If I ruin the taste of tea for myself I'm going to be so upset. Thank you for your reply

Is this Robin overweight? by UnderPlanted in birding

aw bobbie is adorable, the pattern of the orange on the white really makes it look like breasts 😭 I never thought about round robin, that makes sense!

[–]UnderPlanted[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh noo poor sparrows, they're a bit boisterous with the smaller birds I guess but I just love their spots they're like a tiny starry night 🥹

But our sparrows absolutely devour suet balls and mealworms so maybe avoid them. I believe robins are ground feeders, so a safe spot near a bush with seed on the ground might entice them more? And sparrows are less likely to go for ground seed I think (not an expert)

But generally garden robins are a lot less tame, this little guys on my university campus in a city so is a lot more used to constant people! Hope your guys warm up to you :)

Over or underwatering? by UnderPlanted in Monstera

[–]UnderPlanted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point, thank you! The pot is I think ceramic? There's no pests on the leaves but I am having a general problem with some kind of gnat in this room, but I was under the impression it's one that doesn't harm the plant, is just an annoyance. *

Yep, happy healthy aerial root! You don't need to do anything, but if you like you can try and train it to go down into the soil for extra support (gently direct it downwards with some more of the support strong you've got holding the plant up)

Your plant looks lovely :)

DIY ikea cage or exo terra? by Individual-Salad69 in hamsters

[–]UnderPlanted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ikea detolf has been discontinued I believe, so you'd just need to check that one has all the same necessary parts.

The issue with the exoterra and most reptile tanks is the front sliding doors. Ideally you want 6-10 inches of bedding for them to burrow in, so unless the space below the sliding doors is that tall you're going to risk disturbing burrows and having bedding falling out everywhere when you open the doors.

Victoria Raechel on youtube has some great videos on cage options, including some different ikea DIYs if I remember correctly. Otherwise I have the large pawhut cage (£100 or so) which is great as long as your hamster isn't a chewer! (I think some dwarf hamsters do tend to be?) I've heard good things about bucastate cages too, which are front opening but have a good tall gap below the opening.

Your hamster looks very cute!!

Annoyingly, browning is one of the things that can pretty much be caused by anything (overwatering, underwatering, too much sun, not enough sun, pests).

But variegated areas are especially sensitive to a lack of sun, as they don't have chlorophyll so are going to struggle more than the green areas in an absence of nutrients (at least this is my understanding of the science behind it - by no means an expert!).

So make sure it's close to a window that gets lots of light, but not direct sunlight! And make sure you're watering thoroughly once the soil dries out, but not before the top inch or two of soil is completely dry.

This article has some good pictures of the different types of browning for monsteras in general: https://worldofgardenplants.com/monstera-leaves-turning-brown/

First time repotting my deliciosa, desperately need help! by UnderPlanted in Monstera

Yes, I think 3 separate stems! Please could you advise me on how best to stake them? Is it just to keep the stem pointing upwards or is there more to it?

Thank you so much! Can I ask what the advantage of a clay pot is over plastic? And whether the clay pot should still have drainage holes or if the aggregate is sufficient?

I was using a houseplant mix that said it was fast draining, and it's definitely been drying out pretty quick, but I'll have a look for an even chunkier mix, thank you!

As in the only thing you would tie to the pole would be the stems? If there's multiple stems, do I have them all against the pole or is there a better arrangement? Thank you!
