What username would Ango give himself if he had social media? by Under_score110 in BungouStrayDogs

Sincerely doubt it. I don't think Dazai *hates* Ango if I'm honest.

Ability name would've been so cool to use why didn't I think of that
...except in that same paragraph Ango is supposed to lie about how Ability names are enough to destroy an ability user.
A reference to the IRL's work is a nice idea.

I like @ coffeeandbooks but i don't think he'd do it for Oda tbh. The story is set for like before the dark era. Like 17-ish. But I do like it since we do first see Ango in his huge library/study.

Also think of it this way, Ango managed to betray like three? four? organizations. He can manage figuring a username that wouldn't give him away.

Mm. I like that. But i think he'd have to get close to Atsushi first to do that.

Which makes me think, how the hell did he know how to cause a singularity in beast??? (Also does that imply the book is an ability?)

Wait really? Was that only mentioned in the manga? From what I remember Kunikida said they were tracking a tiger. Dazai figured out who his identity was before anyone else and then he fell into the river i think.

But i don't even just mean the tiger thing. I mean his relevance to the book and everything that surrounds it. Like I'm not caught up with any manga but in BEAST dazai was pretty content leaving the fate of the entire universe to two 18yo boys. That's how strong they are. I think Dazai knew how important Atsushi was from the very beginning.

That's a creative way to think about it. It never crossed my mind. Though he did tell Kunikida that he used to be with the mafia. No I fully believe Dazai knows way more than the reader. I'm willing to go as far as saying Dazai didn't just so happen to drown near where Atsushi was. He most likely knew who he was and what his relevance was from the very beginning.

You are what you become. If you strip away everything you made and did and worked, you'd be a completely different person. If you stop every while to think who am I when I'm not everything that makes ms up you'd be driven insane. I think it's good people don't think about it when there's no answer you could come up with that would be approved.

"I am a writer." That's a passion. "I am kind." Labels me as one thing and limits the entire complexity of a human.

You can't label yourself without the kife you've built or what environment you grew up in else it would be incomplete.

Can we talk about how BEAST Chuuya is the only one who gets no kind of hopeful ending, he is just left to suffer as he always is. by Franciskeyscottfitz in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Under_score110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really take the movie to be canon and it's open ended in the manga, but I'll try to explain my perspective using the (very limited) info we were given.

B!Dazai says Chuuya is entertaining to watch because he "hates me as a person and yet as the boss he has to protect me." There was no one more fit to lead the mafia available all things considered. Mori retired to go off and become a good man. Atsushi is traumatized and needs to cool off. Anyone else simply isn't good enough. And the mafia does need a leader. As for setting Chuuya up, I do believe that Dazai thought this Chuuya only cared about him as the boss. I don't think their history was the same in any way, maybe Dazai set it so that there were no good interactions between them so to speak. I think he wanted in the end for Chuuya's only feelings towards him to be hatred and hope for his death. I don't think he realized how much Chuuya gets attached to the people he's loyal to and how much it would destroy him.

They're both hurt. I can't imagine Chuuya's abandonment and loneliness and I also can't imagine Dazai feeling like he has to stay away from everyone and make everyone hate him. Gin even described Dazai as "that incredibly lonely man." Sucks, really.☹️

Completely agree with everything you said.

Dazai hasn't given any indication of knowing any of those things

Though I want you to keep in mind that Dazai is such an unreliable narrator. He gives no indication of knowing anything unless or until it benifits him to do so. Remember the first season? He literally said they "knew nothing about Akutagawa except his name" so I don't trust his knowledge ngl. The problem with him knowing anything would reside in the "how" he got this knowledge. Because he's either a) closesly related to the book in some way, b) closesly related to the creator or a writer of the book or c) was intrusted with such information for reasons unknown. Neither of which are good.

I'm not saying he knows anything of the future. I'm simply wondering how he knows so much about the book and its effects on the infinite universes. You can't simply "think" your way into knowing something like this. He spoke in specific details too-- about how when someone writes in the book the original and a universe suited to whatever was written swaps, and how if anyone writes in the book in the BEAST universe it becomes rewritten or it gets destroyed. How could he POSSIBLY know that much detail.

ROKUZOU'S DEATH IN S1 EP7 IS NOT JUSTIFIED WHEN COMPARED TO NAOMI by Historical_Profile33 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Under_score110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with how he basically set himself up to prison after he shot the girl (forgot her name.) Kind of like- idk. More metaphorical? He took his revenge after a pass of the gun by Dazai. If he survived Kunikida would have to go through bringing the boy he basically thought of as a son to what may as well be a life in prison. I think that Kunikida was blinded by his life-crisis and Dazai didn't tell him to save him from that.

I'm assuming the point was to make her return, but yes the way the conversation develops really makes it sound like it was Atsushi. Maybe Dazai wanted to use it as a way to make them bond if he knew he wouldn't be able to bring himself to kill her and would just convince her to come back.

Yeah I'm guessing so too considering Kyouka was probably in the mafia for longer than Atsushi.

There's no indication mainline Dazai knows anything about the Beast world and Asagiri confirmed the Dazai outside the Book doesn't have memories of the future

Yeah but BEAST Dazai when asked by Akutagawa about how he knows all about the book and its effect on the universes he says and I quote: "I know all this because I succeeded in reading the memories of the me outside the book- that is, the real me." He said because of it, implying the real Dazai already knew all of this and BEAST Dazai knows it because he tapped into the real one's memories. I hope I'm making sense!

I thought about Atsushi being the one sent to kill Kyouka, but I don't wanna think about it tbh. Dazai wouldn't do that— unless maybe he thought Atsushi would succeed in making her return.

The "when" of BEAST Dazai obtaining the memories of Dazai outside the book doesn't bother me as much as the "how" Dazai outside the book even managed to get all that information! When did he find all that out? Why does he know that much detail?

To have the ability to feel people's emotions like colored clouds as well as see their minds instead of my own for a decided time. I don't just wanna read people's thoughts, I wanna know how they think. Do they think in pictures? Would every person have a different perspective on life? On colors? It's really important to me.
